The "moderate" drought we are experiencing in the MS Delta, combined with the high heat has resulted in local officials asking no use of sprinklers and other outside water usage until after 8 PM and to please use water sparingly.

They handed out fliers on every door in town and said it was the highest energy comsumption our town has ever seen.

They're doing the same thing in some cities of the North Texas region. Matter in fact, a few cities in Denton County, TX had to raise water restrictions to Stage 5 (No watering at any time) temporarily until one of the pumps at a water tower had to be repaired.

Year round law here.. Drought or not. We were ~8 inches below in May and have had well over 24" since which puts us a few over now. Restrictions year round in wet Florida.

I hope you folks actually do come out of the drought Dennis.. I have my doubts it will ever happen..

There was a story about our drought in the local paper this morning. We are in an exceptional drought. On the drought scale which is 800 at its highest point,we are rated as 741.There is no rain in sight, and things are getting worse.By fall,I expect we will have water rationing

In contrast to last years drought,we are below rainfall amounts during May June and July compared to the same time in 2005

Restricted watering is nothing new here. It happens every summer now. The bad thing is I am only supposed to water on certain days between the hours midnight and 2pm. Lot of good that does me while i'm sleeping and at work. There are a few exceptions. But when you're -12.66" short of rainfall, you must do something. Here's the ordinance:

Customers with odd-numbered home/property addresses (ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays

Customers with even-numbered home/property addresses (ending with 0, 2, 4, 6, 8) water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays

There is no watering on Mondays

The designated times for lawn watering are from midnight to 2:00 in the afternoon (for 14 hours of possible watering time each designated day)

Fines are accumlative and stay on record for three years.

We've had restricted watering in the past. This year has not been an issue and when it is in effect we can get fined as well.
