I have made up a list - in chronological order - of the most memorable weather days of 2006. What do you think the most memorable was/were?

1) February 12 - Blizzard in the Northeast

2) March 9 - First day of the severe weather outbreak in the Mississippi Valley, primarily a derecho

3) March 12 - Tornado outbreak in the Midwest

4) April 2 - Tornado outbreak in the Mississippi Valley, deadliest weather day of 2006

5) April 7 - Tornado outbreak in the South, costliest weather day of 2006 (?)

6) April 13 - Tornado outbreak in Iowa

7) May 16 - Severe floods in New England

8) June 28 - Severe floods in the Mid-Atlantic

11) July 19 - Another derecho in the Midwest (St. Louis especially), largest power outage of 2006

12) July 21 - YET another derecho, this time the Ohio Valley

13) August 24 - Several major tornadoes in the Upper Midwest

14) August 31 - Final landfall of Tropical Storm Ernesto and flooding afterward

15) September 22 - Tornado outbreak and floods in the Mississippi Valley

16) October 13 - Major lake-effect blizzard in Buffalo

17) November 15 - Tornado outbreak in the South

18) November 30 - Severe weather of every type imaginable

19) December 14 - Major non-tropical system in the Northwest

20) December 20 - Enormous blizzard in Denver

Snow "flurries" (mixed with rain) in Orlando was actually late November.

That's a good list! I definitely remember the April 2 and April 7 Outbreaks vividly.

Me too. That first week of April was definitely very memorable.

Also the last time the deadliest AND costliest weather disasters were purely severe weather outbreaks was in 1987.

Heavy rain and flooding in May, June, and October.

I'll do this in 27 images. We travelled from Bellingham, WA to Philadelphia to Niagara Falls and then moved from PHX to Tulsa during 2006. Had a bit of rain in PHX in February, a storm in Tulsa in July, and then the big event - an Oklahoma snowstorm on Nov 30! Check out the pics!

July 27-August 1: Monsoon floods in Arizona with severe flooding and landslides in the Tucson area and the Coronado National Memorial with up to 20 inches of rain falling in the mountains during the period. Prior to that time from January through May Tucson had its driest such period on record.

Yes, these monsoon rains also hit southern Utah hard. This is when 2 children were killed by a flash flood north of Price, Utah. Probably the 2nd-biggest weather event in Utah of 2006 (the biggest being severe thunderstorms on August 1).

Don't forget December 28, which saw what was perhaps a more devastating blizzard than the first one in the Plains.

The most memorable weather days of 2006:

February 16 - Very strange weather for Southern Ontario. There were 2 thunderstorms in one day when there really shouldn't be anything close to a thunderstorm in the middle of February. At the time, there was about 1 meter of snow on the ground with +10 temps. It rained so hard yet none of the snow melted and there were reports that there was heavy freezing rain. 1 person was stuck by lightning while playing N64 (lived).

March 12, April 2, April 7 - Tornado outbreaks along with very severe weather in America. I remember these well.

End of May - Amazingly hot temps. for Ontario and some of the US.

July 17 - This was a large thunderstorm event for Ontario. I think it was a derecho. Caused damage over a large area and it was one of the worst storms of 2006. The clouds rolled in so fast that I thought we were going to get hacked. For the next 30 minutes, I witnessed some of the most unusual clouds i've ever seen roll through the sky quickly with little "storm". Very cool.

August 2 - This was basically a repeat of July 17 only more widespread throughout Ontario and possibly the worst thunderstorm I've seen in 2006. It was so hot and muggy and then that squall line just formed again and I knew exactly what was about to take place. There were warnings up long before anything started. Same black clouds rolled in and such and when it was done, the sky was golden. Fun.

That's basically all the most memorable of 2006.

Within Utah specifically:

March 12 - Snow fell throughout the state, with up to 22 inches in Cedar City (including snow from previous days) and even 2-3 inches around Saint George (which is their yearly average).
July 30 - Heavy thunderstorms in southern, central, and eastern Utah. Two children were killed when an SUV was swept off of Highway 6 between Price and Helper, the only single weather event in the state this year to kill more than 1 person.
August 1 - Severe thunderstorm moved through Salt Lake County, downing many trees and causing some wind damage. This hit me, although we received little more than street flooding. Later in the day, a severe supercell moved through Utah County, causing $13 million in damage, downing power lines and trees and flipping planes at Provo Municipal Airport. Some houses were out of power for 2 days.
October 6 - Severe flooding hit around Hanksville, washing out 2 highways into town, washing away a mobile home, and isolating a school bus full of students that had to be rescued, as well as motorists in Capitol Reef National Park and hikers in Arches National Park. Record daily precipitation in Hanksville. It was later discovered that nearly the entire irrigation system, including the dam, near the city was heavily damaged, crippling the agricultural activity of the area.

Those are probably the 4 biggest weather events in the state this year. Late July through late August saw heavy monsoon precipitation in southern and eastern Utah, with frequent flash flooding.
