13F degrees (-11C) in June

Took the kids backpacking in the nearby Flat Top Mountains over the weekend. Along the South Fork White River, we had 13F degrees Saturday morning (June 9). It was the coldest June night I have camped in, beating out Ripple Creek Pass (also in the Flat Tops) in 2005 when we had 14F.
13 is pretty chilly for June, even around here. The official low in Colorado for the day was 20 at Leadville, but they only count populated places.
Anyway, besides the cold morning, the weather was just beautiful. The sky was blue and eveything else is green. The fish are jumping and we saw baby elk.
It's raining in the valley and snowing in the mountains, but starting tomorrow a big warmup is forecasted with temps near 90 in the valleys. It appears that summer has arrived in Northwest Colorado. It's going to be a great summer and I wish you all a great summer as well.
