Incredibly deep and persistent cold. The daytime cloud cover the last 2 days has kept our already low max temps even lower. Looking forward to the big rebound getting underway.

Water temp @ Clearwater beach has plummeted to 55. We would be far more vulnerable to a freeze if our water was already that cold when the arctic air arrived. It seems like around here our most severe cold events were preceded by cold which primed the pump..by sucking the warmth out of nearby coastal waters, bays lakes. Fortunately a warm streak is on the way that will allow our water temps to recover.

Meanwhile it was a bust calling for a freeze warning for the Orlando area when the models were persistent in cloud cover sticking around during the night.
Orlando lucked out with only a light freeze Saturday and Sunday mornings, our tropical plants just got some cosmetic damage, nothing close to 2010’s damaging hard freezes.

One more chilly night and then our slow warm up becomes a rapid warm up.

So far this Winter season starting Dec 1 the outlook for a La Nina type Winter is failing from what was forecasted.
The precip for the SE US was progged to be drier than normal at a 40 to 50% chance.
I knew from the get go that fronts would still come through with moisture on a regular basis.
The grass in my area has not yet gone completely brown yet which is rare.
Not a real fan of humid conditions all Winter makes it tough to control indoor air since excess humidity is not good in
your home long term.
Happy New Year
Ps. wish this site supported fancy gifs for the new year.

We still got lots of winter to go but we can say we're a third done with December in the books. Certainly the pattern has felt more nino-ish compared to the forecast so far. We'll see if that holds. In the meantime nino style firehose aimed at California is a good thing. Maybe the continuation of a pseudo nino would be a net plus? At any rate...happy new year to everyone and another year of fun watching nature do its thing.

The humidity has made it necessary to run the A/C. While we love to have windows and doors open, we're not going to let that humid air in.

I follow JB and he thinks mid-January may bring another very cold push to the east US. I'm hoping it works out that way as I need to do some weeding before the spring warm up.

Happy New Year everybody and looking forward to learning all things Florida weather from you.

It has absolutely nothing to do with us....but wow take a look at that midlatitude cyclone in the Pacific approaching California. Very impressive structure.

Looks like Sunday morning is the coldest and appears it could get to low 40s. Very short lived cold hit though, looks like warm anomalies come back as early as Monday morning.

Chilly couple days on tap. Looking ahead, the CPC outlooks for 6-10, 8-14 days and 3-4 week periods run above normal. Should that verify that will drive a stake through the heart of winter. I suspected the Christmas cold blast represented peak misery for this winter at that time and things appear to be tilting that direction.
