Looks like severe weather will be affecting at least 3 parts of the nation today as a slight risk has been issued by the SPC for the northeast, southeast, and southern plains. Already 2 severe thunderstorm watches have been issued.

Looking like a couple good bow echoes in the South...one in central Mississippi and the other in southern Alabama...

The severe threat definitely materialized here in central MS. Many trees are down around Madison County. Wind gusts in excess of 60 mph were recorded five miles from here, and judging by the handy Beaufort scale, winds were well in excess of 50 mph here at the house. The initial gust that began the wind storm was most probably in excess of 60 mph. I saw one nice branch (about 6 in diameter) hit the ground, and I heard many more cracks. Lots of limbs and lawn furnitire flying around. Unfortunately, the expected heavy rain didn't materialize. We only picked up about a quarter of an inch in Canton.

Same thing here rsdoug1981. I was test driving a car car when the wind hit and it did HIT! It felt like the new car i was driving had wings on it and stop lights were almost rolling over themselves. Then i got back and went to srh.noaa.gov/jan and it looked like almost the whole CWA was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. There were traffic lights out and trees down mainly and a reported wind gust of 63 or 65 MPH at the res. Boy this weather got me excited though. We havent had anything like this here in a while.

The NWS doesn't even have a chance of rain for Lafayette tonight but there are severe storms just to our north sinking south and even some cells starting to develop right over the city. Looks like it could get rough here soon, these storms look intense!

Sure enough this line is building right south in Lafayette Parish as I speak. We should be getting some torrential rainfall soon. Whenever I see huge MCS's coming in from the north and east in the summer I remember back how Danny formed back in the late 90's. We should keep an eye on this huge thunderstorm complex to see if it holds together once it reaches the gulf.

Just had a few branches snap off in the backyard. I'm on the north side of Lafayette right on the 10 / 49 border. The rain is coming down bad and the lightning is crazy! These storms came barreling in here quite fast.

Got a little rough here in Biloxi. Wind, lightning and lots of rain. My boss was starting to walk from his house to the shop and he heard a crack and jumped back on the porch just as a very large branch fell and landed between porch and pool. This is just east of where a funnel cloud was spotted. The sky was black and ugly and I was trying to get dogs at the kennel in from outside before it hit. It got really eerie quiet just before the storm cut loose.
As I was driving home I saw this:
0450 PM TSTM WND DMG 1 W BILOXI 30.42N 88.95W
06/19/2007 HARRISON MS EMERGENCY MNGR
TREES DOWN ON SEVERAL CARS ALONG COWAN ROAD.
There's a spa nestled in a tree covered parking lot just north of Pass road on Cowan/Lorraine Road. I saw flashing lights and looked over to see this huge tree on top of a bunch of cars in the parking lot.
