Warm temperatures across FL peninsula
Posted: Fri Jun 22, 2007 5:03 pm
Sfc winds have shifted to the west and northwest around the base of a sfc ridge. This has led to warm afternoon temperatures over portions of southern Florida. These high values have penetrated central Florida, too. In addition, the strong downsloping effect (and convective cap) has enhanced high temperatures across the Florida peninsula.
Despite the weak coastal influence, southeast (and southwest) Florida received widespread readings within the 90s. At 4:00 p.m. EDT, temperatures reached 93°F at my location in eastern Palm Beach County, while Miami recorded 91°F! Fort Lauderdale reported temperatures into the middle 90s. Some clouds passed through the area, so the readings are quite impressive.
Here are some obs from 4:00 p.m. EDT (per Miami NWS).

These readings were taken during the previous hour. The highs have cooled down, but readings still reach 90 degrees into the central portion of the state. Leesburg reached 91°F, while Orlando International Airport attained its maximum temperature of 87°F.
At the present time, temperatures are quite hot (upper 80s) across most of southern Florida, too. The Tampa Bay region received highs within the low 90s, too. This is intense for the late afternoon hours. It is a good thing that we have air conditioning! Humidity values are vigorous.
