On December 16, 2000, an F4 tornado struck Tuscaloosa, AL. 11 people were killed and 125 injured. 40 homes and 70 mobile homes were completely destroyed.

This was the deadliest tornado of 2000 (along with the Camilla, GA tornado.) This was also the deadliest December tornado since 1957.

A WBMA tower cam caught the tornado live and meteorologist James Spann received an Emmy Award for his broadcast on the tornado.

Here is the tower cam footage.

That was one of the early gems of storm coverage. If the TowerCam hadn't caught the tornado to give the most obvious warning available, the death toll could have been much higher.

December tornado outbreaks aren't exactly common either...

I remember that day well, I was watching that station live when that happened.

It snowed the next day. It was so odd.

Well, some of the people commenting on YouTube said that tower cams can be difficult to operate. Sometimes, there can be a delay between movements.
