The World Bank approved a $200 million package for Post-Flood Recovery Assistance Programme in Bangladesh, A World Bank press release says.
The package has three broad components, e.g., infrastructure rehabilitation, focusing on rehabilitation of damaged roads, bridges, culverts and municipal infrastructure.
The component will also support the rehabilitation and renovation of primary and secondary schools in a way that the schools can also be used as disaster shelters for the affected local communities. In addition, the Bank will also support rehabilitation of 31 flood-affected fish farms under the Department of Fisheries.
Secondly, import finance, providing finance for eligible imports that are urgently needed by the public and private sectors for reconstruction and rehabilitation following the flood. Third, livelihood restoration, providing credits to 400,000 poor households affected by flood as well as those affected by 'Monga' in the northern districts of Bangladesh.
The WB project addressed the short to medium-term needs, following the devastating 2004 floods.
