Awaiting in the wings Atlantic Storm Benedict is beginning to wind up with the centre positioned across the Greenland tip at 01.00am Sunday Morning. By midday on Sunday Benedict will have reached a central pressure of around 960mb and will be officially a Category Two Atlantic Storm just South of Iceland ready for an approach towards the United Kingdom in time for Sunday Evening.

Atlantic Storm Benedict will bring a swathe of severe gales to Western Scotland, North Western England and Wales says the chief forecaster at Met-Monkey. The strongest of the winds are expected as the low hits the outer Hebrides with storm force 10 likely for a time and gusts of 70 – 80mph a possibility. Needless to say that winds of this strength will bring with it some structural damage and disruption to island networks.

Elsewhere although ‘Atlantic Storm Benedic. will be slowly filling as he passes through, he will still bring a period of strong winds with gusts of 45 -55mph locally 60mph across more exposed locations and to higher ground. Due to the topography and exposure of North West and South West Wales gusts of 70mph or more are likely – especially across Aberdaron with 80mph not out of the question. The winds will be strong enough at times to bring down the odd top heavy tree and cause localised disruption.

Brace yourself for a wet & windy 24/36 hours to come and stay safe.
