Strong Solar Storm Underway - Seismic Activity Possible

#1 Postby GCANE » Sat Jul 30, 2011 7:20 pm

Strong sunspots are firing off C-class flares and recently a M9 flare.

More are expected and an X-class flare is possible.

This could be a trigger for a large quake somewhere.

STRONG SEISMICITY CONTINUES AT 141-144 EAST LONGITUDE

EARTHQUAKE SUMMARY FOR JULY 31, 2011

Strong seismicity continued today between 141 and 144 East longitude today. The largest events of the day occurred in Papua New Guinea at 144 East longitude with M 6.8 and in Hokkaido, Japan with M 5.6 at 143 East Longitude. This continues the strong series of events at this longitude band which began yesterday with an M 6.4 aftershock off the coast of Honshu, Japan at 141 East longitude and an M 5.6 in Guam at 143 East longitude. The daily earthquake map below shows this as a well-defined straight line of red epicenters from Hokkaido to Honshu to the Bonin Island, Guam and Papua New Guinea. In our summary yesterday we discussed this and proposed that this was a result of the triggering effect of the largest solar flare since March 10, 2011 of class M9.3. This longitude band at 141-144 East would have been directly at solar noon (sub-solar) when this flare occurred and the flare effects would have been maximized along this longitude band. This pattern crosses many tectonic boundaries so activation along a subduction zone cannot be the cause leaving the solar flare the clear triggering factor. The strong series of earthquakes which have occurred in the sub-solar longitude since that flare is one of the clearest cases of flare-related earthquake triggering I have ever observed and should be carefully studied as such.

Russian scientists to explore link between Sun and natural disasters

http://rt.com/news/space-probe-sun-scientists/

August 1, 2011 – MOSCOW

Some scientists believe bursts of solar activity cause natural disasters on our planet, but until now the star has been too difficult to reach or explore in any detail. Some Russian researchers think they have the solution. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis – apocalyptic pictures are becoming an ordinary part of news bulletins across the globe. And scientists are not giving out reassuring forecasts. “Unfortunately, we’re expecting more severe cataclysms which may lead to large-scale human losses and destruction,” says Baku-based Professor Elchin Kakhalilov of the Global Network for the Forecasting of Earthquakes. “I’m talking about even a possible shift of the centers of our entire civilization.” The change in the Earth’s seismic activity coincides with the rise of activity on the sun. Scientists have been witnessing gigantic bursts of plasma on its surface and say they are affecting our planet, even though it is over 90 million miles away. Each burst sends billions of particles into space which impacts the Earth’s magnetic field. This may trigger some of the processes going on deep bellow its surface, leading to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Scientists predict solar activity will increase and say in the next few years, large-scale disruptions of electronic equipment, radio transmissions, computer failures and massive black-outs could become parts of everyday life. The sun is currently monitored either by stations on Earth or in orbit. But sending a probe four times closer to the star would be far more helpful. And it may not be science fiction much longer, thanks to a project currently being developed by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). “This is going to be like a thermometer which would fly close to the Sun, measure its temperature, density and magnetic fields,” Dr. Sergey Bogachaev, an Interheliozond engineer from Moscow. “We’re making it from scratch: no one has ever done this before.” The project of Interheliozond, as it is called, is intended to study the sun from close range, says RAS Space Research Institute Director Lev Zeleny according to Interfax. The space probe will provide new data about the sun. Scientists are currently carrying out preliminary design and trajectory studies of the future spacecraft. The project has been included into Russia’s Federal Space Program. The Interheliozond is set to be launched by 2015. Of course it will not be able to control the star’s activities, but it could at least give a heads up to humanity before disaster strikes.

Is this same event affecting the tropics?
And if so,how long will it last?

I think so. It is abnormally heating the ionosphere and possibly inhibiting development of 91L IMHO.

The x-ray flux creates more electron density in the ionosphere than what is normal.

This is shown in the graphic below. Usually it is black. But when electron density increases, there will be a blue bubble superimposed on the earth's surface showing where the heated region is in the ionosphere. The higher the electron concentration, the deeper blue the bubble.

I think the excess electrons create a pressure effect onto the tropopause which effectively pushes down on cyclones and keeps them from spinning up.

This most likely will last as long as the sunspots, crossing the face of the sun, expand & grow.

When they move to the other side of the sun, the effect will be gone.

Proton flux is on the increase.

Radio interference warnings also up.

August 3, 2011 – EARTH-DIRECTED BLAST:

Magnetic fields above sunspot 1261 erupted this morning at 0619 UT, producing a long-duration M1-class solar flare. At the peak of the action, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a surge of extreme ultraviolet radiation around the sunspot: The blast also hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) almost directly toward Earth. Space-based coronagraph images from SOHO and from STEREO-A show the cloud racing away from the sun at almost 900 km/s. Minor to moderate geomagnetic storms are possible when the CME arrives on or about August 5th. –Space Weather

At least two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are now en route to Earth, propelled toward us by eruptions in the magnetic canopy of sunspot 1261 on August 2nd and 3rd.

Analysts at the GSFC Space Weather Lab have just produced a new 3-D model of the advancing CMEs.

Just started studying it since early this year.

I became serious when there was strong solar activity just before the 3/11 Japan quake.

Then I did research and found out there is a lot of literature out that correlates quakes & volcanic activity with solar disturbances.

Solar Watcher on Youtube has a lot of info and puts out timely updates:

Have you been looking into this as well?
