Drought Could Break Next Month Says Met

#1 Postby Anonymous » Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:22 pm

A prominent Newcastle meteorologist is predicting the drought could break next month.

Newcastle University's Martin Babakhan says he has been assessing a range of computer models over the past 12 hours and believes a major change in local weather patterns is starting to occur.

Mr Babakhan says there is evidence El Nino is weakening, which is likely to lead to much-needed rain late next month.

"I'm confident of this... I think [our prayers] are going to be answered, conditions are just there," he said.

"The current El Nino is showing clearly a sign of decay. The period of this drought will end at the end of March, it's most likely. There'll be various forms of rain coming through the region some moderate, some heavy, some significant rain, right through the region."

I posted this one since it had a lot to do with El Nino breaking up. The met expects that the drought will break next month, mainly due to El Nino weakening. All of the forecasters are now in agreement, except for the CPC since all they know how to do is read models.
