The coldest for 20 years?

#1 Postby polar low UK » Thu Jan 22, 2004 3:18 pm

Well, just a quick update from myself in the UK.

We've been watching developments closely for a while, and now it appears likely the UK will experience a very cold spell starting on Sunday and persisting for possibly upwards of 5 days. This is not certain yet, but there could be some major falls of snow, and also a low possibility of the all time UK low (-27.2c in Braemar, Scotland (Dec. '95)) being broken.....it could be the worst we've seen since the early 80's, with some warnings stating that overnight minimas could drop below -20c or so in Scotland. This is quite rare and exceptional.

We are all extremley excited, and we hope to mirror the recent cold in the NE USA and Canada! (or maybe not lol! Ive heard -40 is a bit nippy)

Have a great day guys.

Duncan

Yeah, for once nearly everyone in the UK has a reasonable chance of seeing some snow.

Watch out for us on the TV:

Severe Weather Brings Britain to a Standstill
Tens of thousands of motorists and railway passengers are stranded across England, whilst millions are without electricty after nearly 3 inches of snow fell in the space of 48 hours....

noooo duncan..... minus 40 isnt nippy at all.

now minus 45 is nippy..but not minus 40.

minus 40 is like a walk in the park.
it was remarked recently here where i live that the wind chill readings were so so cold.. that the 2 temperature scales met (they meant minus 40C equalled minus 40F). It doesnt happen often. hehe

PS stay warm next week

This has prompted the UKMO to publish a press release and a notice for severe weather disruption
