Storms ravage south-east Qld

#1 Postby Anonymous » Wed Mar 26, 2003 6:36 pm

Overnight thunderstorms in Queensland's south-east have left up to 27,000 homes without power.

Energex is still working to fix powerlines and restore supplies to about 2,000 consumers across Brisbane.

There have been isolated reports of property damage in south-eastern suburbs.

Weather Bureau spokesman Greg Bond says the rainfall pattern was unusual.

"Down in the south-eastern suburbs of Brisbane we had some quite heavy falls - Mansfield had 102 millimetres and Eight Mile Plains had a similar total [of] 102, and yet in the northern and eastern suburbs or north-eastern suburbs, Brisbane airport had five, Manly four," Mr Bond said.
