# 5 - SECOND half of March

The second half of March, or the transition from winter to spring calendar is passed along the spring-like, with no major winter afflictions such as bull frequent in recent years. We had two rainy cyclone on the Adriatic that, particularly in the north and south, and brought abundant rain. On Zavižanu to the end of calendar winter melts away and the little snow, and the Velebit peaks are provided an image that corresponds more mid-May, not March
During the last ten calendar days of winter brought a warming and increased precipitation due to the effects of the Mediterranean low Simon. On 14 March Zavižanu measured only on the negative morning air temperature (-1.2 ° C). On that day in the interior frequently exceeded 20 ° C. The Pozega Gradištu and Bilogora measure, for this time of year, high 22 ° C. In Osijek, Daruvar, Slavonski Brod, Sisak and Varazdin, the temperature rose to 21 ° C. Other towns in Slavonia and the central and northwestern parts , mainly temperature of 19 or 20 ° C.

15 to 17 March enacted a very large amount of rain along the Adriatic coast and mountains, along the stormy south, which is in Dalmatia brought the spectacular scenery of the waves. In the 24 hours from 16 at 17 March in Rijeka was 113.3 mm of rain fell, which is more than the monthly average for March (105.5 mm). In the same period in Zavižan 82.8 mm of rain fell, which is about half the monthly amount of rainfall which is 155.9 mm. Abundant rains melted all snow, so it was that night left only 2 cm, and a day later on 18th March there was no snow cover, which is very rare at the end of calendar winter. Abundant rains fell in central and eastern Istria. In Pazin was 76.8 mm of rain fell, and the measuring stations along the river Rasa fell to 90 mm of rain.

Last day of winter is marked by the north wind in the interior of the strong wind and storm on the Adriatic. This colder weather did not stay long, so the very first days of spring calendar brought spring weather. 25th March are the highest daily temperatures in central and northern parts of the interior, and in Slavonia were very high for the time of the year and had a value of 23 or 24 ° C. The SB is daily temperature amplitude was as high as 25 ° C. At 6 o'clock in the morning was measured 1 ° C ,9 h was 12 ° C, at noon 21 ° C, and 15 h was 24 ° C. # 7 - MAY MIX

May has brought the most named cyclone in 2011. year. We escorted them to five, but none is retained longer than two days. Mediterranean cyclones that operated at the time in central and southern Dalmatia and the quick cold fronts. In May, the weather was very changeable with the rapid changes of warming and cooling. It was summer temperatures and small amount of snow in the mountains.

Transition from April in May marked the Mediterranean cyclones Alemka. Most of the rain until the end of the first day of May fell in central and southern Dalmatia, where the rain in places and was more abundant (Lastovo 61 mm, 60 mm Ploče, Vis 54 mm, 34 mm Imotski, Makarska and Dubrovnik Ćilipi 33 mm, 32 mm Mljet) . In the northern Adriatic and the interior has been considerably less rain. After a brief calm to the Mediterranean has reached a new cyclone Berislav. It is south of Dalmatia again brought abundant rain. In Pločama so in the first three days of May, 109 mm of rain fell. At the same time a cold front swept inland from the northwest of Europe, which has brought more substantial drop in temperature. Morning, 5 May he issued a hoar frost in the interior with temperatures of -2 °C.

The third cyclone in the first decade of May, Cvita is 8 May has brought rapid and turbulent change in the time series of meteorological interest. These were mixed on Sundays all year round. Unusual was the trajectory of the cyclone, namely Cvita moving from east to west. So we recorded a summer temperature of 25 ° C in the afternoon around the Rijeka, on the same day at Zavižan the measured maximum temperature of 14.2 ° C, only a few hours later it snowed at 1 ° C, with rain and a temperature of about 10 ° C in eastern Slavonia.

Colder weather brought by the cyclone Cvita did not last long and the beginning of the second week in May, we measured almost summer temperatures that are nearly always exceeded 25 ° C. 11th May is in Sibenik and Senju measured 28.5 ° C. Two days later, on Rab measured 29 ° C, which was then the highest temperature in 2011. in Croatia. Senj and Zagreb had 28.7 ° C.

Plentiful rain has fallen on the Adriatic coast and the mountains Crni Lug 66 mm, 57 mm Pazin, Parg 55 mm, 47 mm Zavižan, Primosten 50 mm). On the 16th Zavižanu May morning measured 19 cm of snow, but the snow stayed just one day. A strong wind was creating traffic problems.

By the end of May were along the coast is increasingly measured temperature above 30 ° C. 25th May is Šibenik measured 32.5 ° C, and two days later in the interior often measure up to 30 ° C. The May heat ended, as so often in the warmer part of the year with a strong storm that brought cold fronts and cyclones Elvira (May 27 to 28). 27th May is a storm accompanied by strong winds, hail and rain affected Podravina. A strong wind in Koprivnici , and the rain ruined crops. Severe storm caused a power outage in Pitomačka and Đurđevac end, so that at one time without power there were about 20,000 people. Front has quickly moved through our region, and brought a drop in temperature inside and up to 17 ° C, so that the interior of the 28th May measure up to 15 ° C.

# 8 - Unstable first decade of JUNE - cyclone(low) Flavian

The first decade of June in our region is characterized by very unstable weather, with frequent pronounced thunderstorms and bad weather. There were a few rainy episodes pronounced with large amounts of rain in a short time (Vis, Sisak, Slatina, Zara), but very large differences in the amount of rain in a small space (Vis-Lastovo, Pazin-Pula). For all that is wrong cyclonic field that stayed over the central Mediterranean during the first week in June. Drought, which marked the first five months of the year in most parts of the country was broken.

The most interesting rain data from this period comes from Sisak. In the first ten days in this city dropped 115 mm of rain. The biggest part of that rain fell on two occasions: first, the third June in a few afternoon hours dropped 30 mm of rain, and then the next day dropped another 50 mm of rain. These 115 mm more than the average of June (for the period from 1960th to 1991st) is 91 mm, but more than the total amount of rain that fell in Sisak in the first five months of the year. And in Karlovac in this period fell more rain (122 mm) from the average of June (99 mm). The town also with 88 mm in the first ten day of June was already reached a monthly average.

Most of the rain, the cyclone Flavian brought to Komiža on the island of Vis, 124 mm. All this rain fell in just six hours of the morning the first day of June. The same day, in Slatina, in just one hour 72 mm of rain fell. The rain that fell in Zadar (Puntamika 44 mm, 68 mm Zemunik) "derived" from a more pronounced storm which affected the area in the early hours of Wednesday 8th June.

Already the first day of climatological summer brought a very unstable time. Ever since the morning rain and the thunder was in Dalmatia, and during the day and night in many parts of the interior, as well as in the northern Adriatic was lightning showers. In some places they were also more pronounced with large amounts of precipitation, but there were also hail. In Komiža during the morning, fell even 124 mm of rain. In the afternoon hours was higher Thunderstorms affected parts of Slavonia, especially the area between Osijek and Slavonski Brod. At the station Slatina in eighty minutes (from 16 to 17:20 hours) fell by 72 mm of rain. The torrential water from the mountain streets were literally flooded several streets in which the police had banned the transport and flooded hundreds of houses and cellars. Abundant rain fell on the Djakovo where there was also hail that has committed a lot of damage. Hail was also in the vicinity of Sisak. Thunderstorms late in the afternoon and evening, and affected a wider area Cakovec and Varazdin and Croatian Zagorje

Variable continued in the coming days with frequent thunderstorms, especially in the central interior region, Slavonia, Gorski Kotar, Lika and Dalmatia. This period is marked by high humidity and temperatures in some places in Dalmatia and reached 30 ° C.
In thunderstorms, which is 5 June spread to surrounding Perušić, lightning has killed much as 34 sheep. 8th June is in the early morning thunder affected the wider Zadar area. In a short time a large amount of rain fell. In Zadar airport Resnik fell 61.5 mm of rain. Station Puntamika scale is 41 mm. A large amount of rain in a short period, caused a local flood.

Stabilization time appeared in Friday, the 9th June and lasted for the next three days.

# 9 - VARIABLE second half of June and the beginning of July

Variable continued in the last decade calendar of spring and the first week of the summer calendar. Only the occasional summer front brought short-term refresher and only locally higher amounts of rain.
14th June is passed through our region is a front that is only occasionally brought large amounts of rain (Pozega, Babin Vir 42 mm). Another front is at the end of spring (June 19th) brought noticeably colder weather in the interior (the temperature was reduced to 16 ° C, so June 19 in Osijek measure 16 ° C, a day before 32 ° C. At the station Parg Čabar dropped 92 mm of rain, of which 82 mm in 12 hours. Last spring morning, the calendar is brought inside a bit and autumn atmosphere, with occasional fog and low temperatures. in the mountains the temperature dropped to 4 ° C in the lowlands of the interior to 7 ° C. However, temperature conditions are quickly align with the calendar, and on June 22, the day after the summer solstices brought a real summer heat in the atmosphere throughout the country. only in the mountainous region the highest daily temperature did not climb above 30 ° C. the warmest was Mljet, where in 2 pm, measured as 36 ° C. Knin, Osijek airport, Ploče and Slavonski Brod measured 34 ° C.

Several days of hot and stable weather in Dalmatia, in combination with a strong storm that blew in Saturday 25th June, they created almost ideal conditions to spread of fire. The three largest fires burned on the island, in Grebastica near Sibenik in Upper Seget. At EUMETSAT's meteorological satellites are clearly seen as the smoke rose above the fires in central Dalmatia, and that the amount of strong north wind blew in the wind the smoke from the fire blew straight from Dalmatia to the Gargano peninsula in the Italian region of Puglia. So the smoke "trails" stretched to more than 230 km away!

It was hot and in neighboring countries. In Bosnia and Herzegovina Mostar measured 37 ° C, Zenica and Banja Luka 35 ° C. In Montenegro, Podgorica measured 36 ° C, Herceg Novi and Ulcinj 35 ° C. In Belgrade and Podgorica was measured at 35 ° C. In Slovenia Cerklje ob Krki measure 32 ° C, and Novo Mesto and Nova Gorica 31 ° C. Another front in the interior and the northern Adriatic 24th Government adopted a little rain and less refreshing.

And the end of June and early July was marked by variable and unstable weather. For it was a responsible eastern cyclone Gabriel, under whose influence he found the east boundary of Slavonia, and the front which has affected the north-west Europe. On the last day of June in the afternoon hours of Osijek affected more severe thunder storm to the north wind. Ten minutes was falling hail. July I began without the summer heat. Third July to Bjelolasici temperature dropped to only 2.6 ° C. The minimum temperature measured in the early morning hours that week were: Platak 3.6 ° C, Jelvica 4.4 ° C, Stajnica 4.7 ° C, Brinje 4.9 ° C. Zavižan measured 4.1 ° C, and Parg 4.9 ° C. Cold was also inside the Istra, Pazin had a minimum temperature of 6.7 ° C. And in much of the interior plains minimum morning temperatures were single digits and ranged from 6.8 ° C in Varazdin to 9.6 ° C in Sisak. In Zagreb (Maksimir) measured at 8.7 ° C, which was the second lowest in July temperatures in this century, that is in the last 11 years.

# 20 - Drought in 2011

2011 yera in most parts of the Croatia was a very dry year. According to data from 35 meteorological stations, where we monitored the amount of precipitation during the year, only two stations (Vis and Palagruza) fell (slightly) more rain than the annual average. The driest was in Bjelovar (386 mm of precipitation which is 47.5% annual average), Bilogora (413 mm - 49.2%) and Gospic (682 mm - 49.8%). At 13 stations has fallen 50-60% of the average annual amounts, at 8 stations of 60 to 70%, and 7 are 70-80%.

In Zagreb, the 2011th was the driest year in the history of measurements, and to the meteorological station Grič means in the last 150 years. U 2011. year has dropped 520 mm of precipitation, which is 59% of the average annual amount equal to 883 mm. So far the driest was the 1949th with 581 mm of precipitation. At the station Maksimir Zagreb in 2011. fell 517 mm of precipitation, which is also the lowest amount in the history of measurement, ie since 1949. year. So far the driest was the 1971st year with 558 mm.

DHMZ in the analysis of rainfall for 2011. highlights the:

Analysis of annual precipitation amounts are expressed in% year average (1961-1990.) Showed that in 2011. year in Croatia, except Komiža, precipitation was below average. Most of the Croatian mainland and the Adriatic Sea is located in the category of extremely dry, while the category is a very dry part of Istria, Lika and Gorski Kotar, and the hinterland of Split and Dubrovnik. Category includes the dry surrounding area of Hvar and Senja, while in the normal category are Vis and Lastovo.

Image

Comparison of rainfall in 2011. also a dry year with the 2003rd show that the 2011th year was drier since 2003. Of the 23 stations were compared to 15 of them the 2011th year was drier since 2003. year.

Image

In dry period of 2011 year, we appointed 33 depressions, but half of them related to short and shallow depressions that are usually only locally operated on time or only a small region of the country brought rainfall. So we had a 3daily and two days 14 depressions. In addition, in 2011 We escorted 7 of three-day depressions. Only six depressions at times operated four days, and only three of them five or more days. The lack pronounced cyclone led to the fact that in most parts of the country during the year, the air pressure is falling below 1000 hPa. Only in the second half of December the air pressure dropped below this value throughout the country.
