Re: Weather in Croatia: Thursday coldest days this winter

#123 Postby Crostorm » Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:40 am

Thursday was one of the coldest days this winter

Croatian Times

One of the coldest days so far this winter occurred in Croatia yesterday (Thurs).

The lowest temperature was minus 20 degrees in Otocac, located in a mountainous region in central Croatia.

But, it was not the lowest temperature this winter in Croatia because nearby Gospic had minus 22 degrees on 21 December 2009. The low temperature yesterday in Gospic was minus 18 degrees.

Other cities with very-low temperatures were Osijek with minus 16 degrees and Delnice, a city some 30 kilometres due east of Rijeka in Gorski Kotar, with minus 15 degrees.

Zagreb had minus 10 degrees and Rijeka minus 3 degrees.

The highest lows were on Vis and Hvar Islands, five degrees. Dubrovnik and Makarska had four degrees.

This morning we talked about the great and rare meteorological extreme that struck north-west of Istria, especially the move Buje - Umag - Novigrad. Among the residents of affected areas can often be heard to the catastrophic events of the television moved them into the yard. For the extreme northeast of the peninsula so abundant rainfall and are not such a rarity, but for the western part they are. Meteorological stations in Buje in the last 24 hours is even recorded 211 mm of rain per square meter! Umag I was under water, and the current government to learn the traffic collapse, nothing strange considering that the water in some places was also higher than the meter! Last night was especially severe in affected areas about which we reported a number of readers, and firefighters had their hands full. Given the numerous landslide, floods and hazardous road law is fortunate that nobody was hurt.
Image

As for the stations shown on our network the highest amount of rainfall fell in Trieste, where they measured an amazing 303 mm/m2

Dubrovnik submerged after heavy rainfall
Image
Dubrovnik, Croatia's best-known resort, was hit by a storm and torrential rain which created rapids in the city's medieval streets, local media reported Monday.

Rain fell all night, dropping 130 litres of water per square meter.

Virtual rapids developed in the steep sidestreets. The broad central street, the Stradun, was at one point submerged under 50 centimetres of water, the 24Casa daily said on its webpage.

30.12.2010. - Goodbye (Meteorological) 2010. YEAR!

At the end of the year I will remember the most interesting moments of weather, as we have noted on this page from day to day, month after month, through stories and photos that have been immortalized some of the most interesting moments of meteorological 2010th year.
January

During the first ten days were characterized by very unstable weather, especially along the Adriatic coast and the mountains. There is rain and snow, and freezing rain. Turbulent was already New Year's Eve and the first day of the year.Gospic in the last hours of 2009th was caught in a major storm with heavy thunder, rain and hail. In Dalmatia, there were problems due to rising sea levels. The tide has flooded. Vodice, Ciovo, Omis and Dubrovnik. Approximately on 1pm on New Year, Makarska Riviera is strongly affected Thunderstorms accompanied by hail in some places large one centimeter.Large waterspouth formed in the sea between Makarska and Hvar.Thunderstorm storms were frequent along the coast, from Pula to Dubrovnik. In this period, the flooded valley of the Neretva River, especially the area right bank of Metkovic.
In mid-January was marked by cold anticyclones. Short term it broke cyclone Lamia, which is 17.1. Turns part of the northern Adriatic and the interior, but the bigger problem with that snow was gone.
Marin cyclones in the last week of January brought freezing rain, northern Dalmatia, and the abundant snow fell in the interior of Lika and Dalmatia. Wednesday 27th January on the northern Dalmatia, from Zadar to Sibenik, it was raining, which is freezing in contact with the ground. In the Zadar hinterland ice caused great damage. In the interior of Dalmatia, Lika and Slavonia fell the snow. In Knin was the snow storm fell about thirty hours.
At the end of another winter cyclones, Nera has brought snow to the interior, and yet it was also partly in the northern Adriatic. In the last two days of January Zavizanu fell 60 cm of new snow ..

Febuary

February is the temperature in the entire country was within the average, but with colder and warmer first half of the second. Rainfall is everywhere no more than average, particularly in the highlands and parts of the Adriatic.
The first half of February was marked by pronounced snowfall in the interior, and on the Adriatic was abundant rain. First, the abundant rainfall brought cyclone Ozren (6 and 7 February), followed by a cyclone Pamela from 9th to 14th February large amounts of snow buried inside the country, from Lika and Gorski Kotar, across central and northern regions to the east Slavonia, where it was 30 centimeters. Snow was one of the major news in our media. In Gospic was dropped 48 cm in two days, and only in 24 hour period fell to 40 cm of new snow. Two days later, on the central square, people made a snowman high 10 and 12 meters wide. At Thursday, the 14th February the most snow (180 cm) was on Zavizanu, then followed Sljeme with 82 cm to 78 cm Delnice, Parg Čabar with 76 cm, Plitvice lakes, with 75 cm and Gospic was measured half a meter of snow. Croatian Mountain Rescue Service was able to save on Papuk-covered mountain climbers.

March

And the average monthly temperature and precipitation March was average in most parts of the country. After the transition from winter to spring climate marked by overly hot, but not quite stable weather, winter is still feeling soon returned in early March. First cyclone come from 4 to 6 March, winter cyclones Ursula returned, and then more spectacular cyclone Vatroslav the transition from first to second decade of the month.Cyclone Ursula on 4 march , returned to the winter atmosphere, and that means snow, especially in the highlands, low temperatures in the interior of the storm on the Adriatic. Snow, after a break of ten days, returns in Gorski Kotar and Lika, and fell 20 to 36 centimeters of new snow.
Vatroslav cyclone at the end of the first decade in March (9th-12.3.) adopted a more pronounced change in time across the country. The interior and the northern Adriatic Vatroslav was last winter cyclone at the end of winter in which they were not left wanting. Vatroslav weather brought plenty of excitement: hurricane storm in the northern and central Adriatic Sea, lots of snow in the interior, and the snow is once again that winter Turns to many corners of the northern Adriatic Sea, there was then a one-day freezing rain in Knin And very large amounts of rain in Dalmatia, which have caused flooding and Vrgorac Imotskog fields. Cyclone has caused a huge media interest. With our name Vatroslav, media used and the name of Andrea, as the cyclone called the Berlin Institute for Meteorology.

Gospić 11.3.2010.

After the cyclone Vatroslav time stabilize, following a cyclone came only at the end of the month. By the beginning of the calendar spring is warmer, so we entered the spring with temperatures up to 20 ° C. Snow remained only in the highest mountains. Zavižan in the spring came with 170 cm of snow. At the beginning of spring, we crossed the front from the west front of which, especially in the interior of the blowing up strong southwest winds in the area of Zagreb damaged several houses, apartments and cars. Front is made up of rain in the northern Adriatic Sea, to 30 mm in Rijeka. At the turn of March in April we visited the cyclone Zora.
