Storm Readiness and Preparations - Supplies on Hand

#1 Postby WeatherGuesser » Thu Nov 01, 2012 6:45 am

This stuff really makes me mad and we see it after every major storm whether it was something sudden like a Tornado or something like a blizzard, ice storm or tropical event where people may have had several days of notice.

Tempers flared Wednesday at a staging area outside City Hall, where a man screamed at emergency officials about why food and water had not been delivered to residents just a few blocks away.

WHY are you looking for food deliveries two days after the storm? WHY don't you have food in your home for at least a week?

If your home didn't suffer damage, you should NOT be looking for this type of relief so soon. Relief is intended for people who have lost their homes and have no other options.

We also see stories of people with generators out looking for gas. As was discussed on one of the Sandy threads, you need to have 40-50 gallons of gas on hand BEFORE the storm strikes knowing that there is a very good chance you will not be able to get it for at least a week afterwards. For that matter, WHY don't gas stations have backup generators?

Think, people, THINK!

Unfortunately some do not learn even from situations like Sandy, Katrina, Ike, Rita, etc. It isn't like what you have posted above isn't common knowledge after the last 10 years. We will see the same thing over and over again in all of the weather situations you mentioned above. To your "Think, people, THINK!", I add TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY!! There are some who will argue economics are involved. To that I say, you don't have to buy it all at once. Buy it over time.
