If it isnt then get it ready, Hurricane season begins in about a week so time is running out, its important to have your plan ready before the storm is born because by the time its bearing down on you, theres no time to make a disaster plan.

better be safe then sorry

Good thoughts. It's pitiful, that recent poll in which huge numbers of people still do not have kits or even real plans. The prevailing mindset seems to be "I'll stock up when a storm is coming". Idiots. We see over and over how quickly a store gets picked clean and all of those "civilized" shoppers turn into clawing savages.

The identical twin mindset is "Well, the authorities will save me - or at least feed, clothe and shelter me after a storm". Again, idiots. It is sad that grown men and women could be so intentionally helpless and have no sense of self-reliance. It is magnified when they have children whom they are supposed to be responsible for. It is YOUR responsibility to feed, shelter, clothe and protect yourself and your family. Te expect others to do this work - to pay for it - and to risk their lives to rescue or defend you is just wrong.

This is a great article they put out here for the 2006 hurricane season here at work.

WaMulians Asked to Prepare for Storm Season

The Atlantic hurricane season begins today. The good news is that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) doesn’t think we’ll have a repeat of the devastating 2005 hurricane season. The bad news—there’s an 81 percent chance a major hurricane will once again strike the U.S.

No one’s figured out how to stop them, so all you can do is take the advice of the NOAA and “prepare, prepare, prepare” for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season.

“The best hurricane defense is to have a plan,” says Annie Searle, head of Enterprise Risk Services at Washington Mutual.

WaMu’s plan this hurricane season—running June 1 through Nov. 30—is to stay open for customers as long as it’s safe to do so.

“Our customers need cash more than ever during emergencies,” says Searle, “so each year we do all we can to maximize protection at WaMu locations in order to keep our business going.”

In addition to distributing preparedness materials to employees in hurricane-prone areas, WaMu installs high-impact film on windows in those areas—or boards selected locations in a predicted storm’s path—and stores vital supplies at strategic locations.

Employees living or working in hurricane-prone areas are encouraged to be equally prepared.

Al Wilson, Office of Continuity Assurance manager and veteran of more hurricane seasons than he can count, says, “Each year, we encourage our employees to develop their family preparedness plans at the beginning of the hurricane season. That way they’ll avoid the pressure of trying to prepare as storms approach.”

Check out NOAA’s Hurricane Preparedness site for tips on creating a hurricane plan, as well as valuable information about hurricane hazards.
