I have one that I use for when I deliver pizzas at nite(rare since I work mostly days now) and I find it very useful. Ive never had the occasion to use one after a hurricane though but I can imagine it would be an asset. One thing: You get what you pay for. The cheap ones simply do not last. I paid $30 for mine; it has a lead acid battery plus an AC charger plus of course a car charger. Well worth it.

We use them, but our mission parameters are a bit different. In a homeowner context, they are quite usefull for lighting up suspicious movement after dark or use from a vehicle by "Neighborhood Watch" elements. Nothing gets a prowler's attention quite like a vehicle roaming around "Painting" potential cover spots.

Throw an IR gel on it and they'll make even 2nd Gen nightvision devices rock. (to include older "night shot" video cameras, which can be used as NODs in a pinch...not to mention making filming after dark during a night lanfall possible)
