I finally saw it last night (I had Tivo'd it). Overall, I thought it was very well-done. I did get a chuckle though at times from Jim Cantore. It seems like he gets more animated over time to the point of being comical. And the line "And the Mississippi River - coiling through the city like a snake"....my wife said "sounds like that movie preview guy".

$10 Billion for Cat. 3 vs. $100 Billion for Cat. 5. Even still, considering the increasing wetland erosion and subsidence, it's still a lost cause in the long run.
About the only solution is to re-route the Mississippi to its natural course and flow, but then large parts of the city and region will have to be sacraficed. If we don't do it now, mother nature will eventually.

It's not even to that point yet; mandatory evacs at anything above Cat 1. I don't think many will need to be told twice.

I think they meant for now. The long term plans are for a Cat.5 levee system but unforturnately that won't be for another 5-10 years from now what I read.

I think that is a matter of opinion on whether or not it's a lost cause.

I guess I am just wondering..while they rebuild the old system why not beef up the Cat protection factor now??
