This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Does the Winter-like weather in Spring mean anything?

#1 Postby tgenius » Mon Apr 16, 2007 7:06 am

I don't know if there's a connection/correlation between the winter like weather the NorthEast is experiencing in the Spring and the hurricane season that follows it. Is there, or is it just a matter of coincidence?

I was wondering that myself but didn't post about it. I think its just the pattern were in which probably flip back to a zonal flow which will bring us back to normal boring weather and drought conditions here in the state of Florida.

It means that the groundhog blew his forecast of winter being over 2 months ago.

You can go to the NOAA site (noaa.gov) and click on the climate at a glance link and browse thru over a 100 years of mean temps for a particular month and then compare hurricane activity for that year. You might wnat to open a second page to a hurricane climatology link that shows activity for a particular year.

1944 had a cool winter for the Northeast and an active East coast hurricane season.
