Tremendous Interest on Board Leading Up to Season Kick-Off

#1 Postby Berwick Bay » Sun May 27, 2007 5:58 pm

Several areas in the Carribean have demanded our interest, along with models which speak of rainmakers moving out of the tropics and into the SE. The ITCZ is showing much above average activity for this time of year, and we've had our first tropical depression in the EPAC. Of course we shouldn't forget about Sub-tropical storm Andrea which appeared off the E Coast in early to mid month. For those who haven't quite grasped it yet, the 2007 Season has already started. Perhaps, one could look at Andrea as a "fluke", but for all the other reasons which I've cited, this 2007 season really has begun. June 1st, as a point on the calendar is really a guidepost towards the start of any hurricane season (and it has been a good one). But some years don't yet have the right ingredients by that time. I've seen some years where because of shear, dry air, sand off the African Coast, or multiple TUTT's, the season really doesn't begin until late July. But we are in fact already in the 2007 Hurricane Season with all that means for our coastal areas. So there will be season kick-offs to herald 2007 on June 1st (and thats good), but we are in fact already there.

Keep in mind we could also not have anymore development until mid july to the begining of august.

June and july in a normal season are ususally quite in the basin.Lets hope for another quite season but always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. 8-)

I tend to think the season begins on June 1st regardless of any preseason storms. Of course, that is probably just because I've been told for years and years that the season begins on June 1st, and it is ingrained in me.
