Re: Did anyone think...
I felt we would have something like this at one point during this season.

Smiling here...if we say yes, how easy now! If we say no, we weren't paying attention, then?
But I will say yes, due to the starting position, the timing, the water temps, the SAL starting to move out when it had been hanging over us for weeks (how is that for a non-tech answer!). It was a recipe for what has happened. And don't ask about what's coming along, we're not allowed by law to talk about things like that
However, I didn't think it would take this track at all...I thought originally it would go slightly north of us here - without much thought of where next. The track still surprises me...and I'm very thankful for the southern movement...very thankful.

I wonder if there were more than one or two here, who were secretly hoping so?

Re: Did anyone think...
I have expected two specific storm scenarios this season:
1. A cat5 to traverse west through the Carribean and hit Yucatan.
2. A hurricane during October in the Gulf with a track and intensity very similar to Opal.

I honestly was surprised by Dean. I initially didn't think it was going to get going or stay going and then the track almost due west has surprised me too. That is one strong ridge he has been fighting!!!
