while I'm not saying that there can't be any connection between stroms and EQs, maybe you should know earthquakes in the M2.5 - 4 range are very common here in the area. The image in the post above shows there are quite a few fault lines in the Dominican Republic, here a list of such 'mini' quakes happend only in November / December - most of those never make it to the USGS website:
