And even with that, it'd be kind of hard to mistake intensity in the Gulf of Mexico, especially off the US coastline. I've never seen a downgrade of a storm in the Gulf into a depression...but then again, I don't know exactly where 1950's "Mike" was.

I'll guess Paloma in the Atlantic (17 named storms), as well as Marie in the EastPAC (13 named storms), based on forecasts and the multi-decadal signal.

JOSEPHINE... we are half-way through the season and this one is supposed to be the active part... but look, there may be nothing in the atlantic for the next 2-3 weeks
