New Record...Busy year, So far...

#1 Postby blp » Mon Sep 15, 2008 9:11 pm

From Jeff Masters:

Today, for the first time since August 15, we do not have a named storm in the Atlantic. The remains of Josephine are completely gone, so we will not have a seventh consecutive named storm hit the U.S. The landfall of Ike on Saturday set a new record, giving us strikes by six consecutive named storms. Five was the previous record, set most recently in 2004.

Looking at the map seems like a good distribution of landfalls so far with most of the typical landfall states(Florida, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina) getting some type of activity with Texas getting the brunt. Crazy thing is that it is only September 15.

I was wondering if anyone might know what is the record for total number of storms(TS or greater) to hit the US in a given year. So far for 2005 I counted (8) and for 2004 (9), 1893 (7).

This is why I'm comparing this season with 2003. 1# heavy gulf landfalling year, 2# decent cape verde season. In which this season is a lot a like. This is why I believe 2003 is the carbon copy in a lot of ways. If this season can form 2-3 storms north of 25 and east of 70,,,In can fill in that area...We would really have a carbon copy then. Sister seasons almost like. I'm talking about the general track of the cycones, not how strong they are.
