It's amazing, i have no word for that, what a nigthmare with a" simple wave" :( damn!!!
Hopet things will back in quickly in your island, but for sure i'm very amazed! :double:

That's why I get so mad when some people on this board refer to waves as nothing and get upset they aren't developing.
This shows exactly how a "simple wave" can seriously impact the islands.

Yes, I think sometimes we on the 'mainland' forget about our friends on the islands. Although I haven't posted here, I have been following along - thanks for keeping us updated.

Absolutely you're right msbee :) always simple or tiny but always nasty or vicious, we can not imagine how many has put troubles in the islands, so hope that this one can bring something to meditate   ....

* THIS WARNING INCLUDES ALL RIVERS...STREAMS AND TRIBUTARIES WITHIN

* AT 1012 PM AST...DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR INDICATED NEW SHOWERS AND
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS...SOME WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL POISED TO
MOVE ACROSS THESE MUNICIPALITIES. RADAR ESTIMATES AND U.S.G.S GAGES
INDICATE THAT 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN IN SOME
LOCATIONS AND ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF UP TO 2 INCHES IS EXPECTED
THROUGH 1215 AM...AND THIS WILL RESULT IN NEW FLASH AND RIVER
FLOODING ACROSS THE WARNING AREA AND WILL FURTHER AGGRAVATE ONGOING
FLOOD PROBLEMS. IN ADDITION...MUDSLIDES AND LANDSLIDES ARE LIKELY.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...ROADS
AND LANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW LYING
AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE

I hope this is the last day I post these watches and warnings.

434 AM AST THU SEP 25 2008

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH UNTIL 6 PM AST THIS
AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SAN JUAN HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF PUERTO RICO...INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING AREAS...CENTRAL INTERIOR...MAYAGUEZ AND VICINITY...
NORTH CENTRAL...NORTHWEST...PONCE AND VICINITY...SOUTHWEST AND
WESTERN INTERIOR.

* UNTIL 6 PM AST THIS AFTERNOON

* LOCAL SOILS REMAIN SATURATED AND RIVER LEVELS REMAIN AT OR NEAR
BANK FULL ACROSS MOST OF THE LOCAL AREA. RAINFALL FROM A
TRAILING BAND OF PRECIPITATION NOW IN THE MONA CHANNEL WILL MOVE
INTO WESTERN PUERTO RICO DURING THE DAY. ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF
ADDITIONAL RAINFALL WILL RESULT IN AREAS OF FLASH AND RIVER
FLOODING...SO THE RISK OF FLASH FLOODING REMAINS VERY HIGH.

* IN ADDITION...MUDSLIDES AND LANDSLIDES ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
OVER AREAS OF STEEP TERRAIN AND LOCAL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS
SHOULD AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL IN THESE AREAS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR HEAVY
RAIN ACROSS THE WATCH AREA...WHICH WILL LEAD TO FLOODING. IF YOU
ARE IN THE WATCH AREA...CHECK YOUR PREPAREDNESS REQUIREMENTS...
ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE INTERESTS ALONG AREA RIVERS. KEEP
INFORMED... AND BE READY FOR QUICK ACTION IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED
OR IF A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED.

PEOPLE IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE AWARE OF THE
POSSIBILITY FOR HEAVY RAINFALL. AVOID LOW LYING AREAS...AND BE
CAREFUL WHEN APPROACHING HIGHWAY DIPS AND UNDERPASSES.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR EASTERN PUERTO RICO HAS EXPIRED.
RAINFALL TODAY IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE SUFFICIENT FOR ADDITIONAL
FLOODING.

PLEASE STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...LOCAL TV...RADIO OR YOUR
CABLE TELEVISION PROVIDER FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS

caribepr wrote:We had sun here as well, actually muggy, hot mosquito weather...which worked for me as I finally got to open my cart and put back all the stuff from packing it away before I left. There are 4 tourists on the island (I'm pretty sure that is close to all) so I had plenty of time to clean, visit with friends who came by that I hadn't seen and sweat my brains out. Finally it started sprinkling again so it was time to be done & early cocktail hour.
The mosquitos are FEROCIOUS!!! And it's only going to get worse, for awhile. But the bay is already cleaning itself, from dark brown to greenish close in, getting blue again farther out.

MJ, had to chuckle at your "4 tourists", LOL!
Mosquitos: Yes, this will be bad after-effect, Dengue was already high incidence in PR and other islands BEFORE all this rain. :( We went from a drought in August to double the YTD rainfall as this time last year, from those future hurricanes that came by here and dumped on our neighborhood. And, we still have the bulk of rainy season to go. Good riddance 93L!!

With the sun are coming more tourists (13, by my count!), but as I spent 4 hours today finishing what I started yesterday I actually sold two 2 dollar bracelets. Woo hoo!
Friends here said I was way too pale on my return...not quite so now. The sun beat me up as I worked on the cart, even in the shade. Maybe most of it was from walking to town. I've been getting road rage, just walking, from the mess the roads are in...My flip flop tan is back 8-)
We had a brief rain this afternoon. Funny how when it's been so intense a rain will make you think oh NO!!!! But it was just a little typical bit of rain this time...

I don't even want to think about dengue. As you might remember, last year we had a huge incidence of same, not good. I am burning the coils, we're all spraying the spray. We might die of cancer from the poison of protecting ourselves but hopefully it won't be from dengue.
