More NHC staff changes: Knabb leaves for CPHC

#1 Postby Chacor » Fri Oct 24, 2008 8:13 pm

Looks like the NHC has lost one hurricane specialist and added one senior hurricane specialist. Jamie Rhome's left the NHC, it looks like. Michael Brennan's also new, I believe.

Hurricane Specialists Unit

Senior Hurricane Specialists
Lixion Avila, PhD
Jack Beven, PhD
Michael Brennan, PhD
James Franklin
Richard Pasch, PhD
Stacy R. Stewart – Warning Coordination Meteorologist (WCM)

Hurricane Specialists
Robbie Berg
Eric Blake
Daniel Brown
(Vacant)

In fact... looks like Jamie Rhome's still at the NHC/TPC, just no longer with the hurricane specialists unit. He's now apparently storm surge team lead at the Techniques Development and Applications Unit at the Technical Support Branch.

He's apparently moved over to the CPHC in Honolulu.

wow!! Thats an odd change to me. Id rather be at the active NHC, than the desolate CPHC. But I guess Hawaii has its perks.

It's also a promotion, the page says he's the new director of operations.

He must have agonized over the decesion. More money and a tropical paradise. Or, just a tropical paradise.

The official press release says that Knabb is actually making a return to the islands, having left University of Hawaii in 2001 to join the NHC.
