Least Number of Named Storms?

#1 Postby WeatherGuesser » Mon May 27, 2013 1:41 pm

Which year(s) had the least number of named storms?

Has there been a year with NO landfalls H1 or greater, even in the Islands?

1914 had only one named storm, with no hurricanes. The one storm hit Georgia.

Before the satellite era, certainly the numbers are underestimated though.

2006 had no hurricane landfalls (closest were Ernesto at 60 kt and Florence at 70 kt but post-tropical).

Let's hope to break that record then, if you can all it a record. Three would be a good number 30 years later.

If we stay under fourteen this year I'll be amazed.

There were probably more storms in 1914, but went undetected.
