Is she starting to get her act together?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is she starting to get her act together?

#1 Postby seahawkjd » Tue Sep 16, 2003 5:54 am

I was just looking at the latest satelite loops and even though the western quadrant still looks ragged it looks like some strong storms are trying to wrap around the eye again and the cloud tops on the west side are cooling. Could the dry air entrainment be ended? Just wanted some feedback.

I was just looking at that IR loop and I agree it appears to be wrapping around better with colder cloud tops.

I would think at the very least it means that its holding its own. There's a rough path ahead of it but it may not weaken much more if any if this keeps up. People definetely need to realize that this is still at the moment a category 3, at the moment around the strength of Fran. If it had gone from a cat 1 to a cat 3 over the past 24 hours and wasn't expected to strengthen anymore everyone would be freaking out. I'm just worried that people became too fixated on the original 160 mph winds and have become complacent and I don't want anyone to get hurt.

SHe's trying to strengthen now. T'storms are filling in on the western side. Let's see if she can sustain this trend and avoid the shear moving east across FLorida and the GOM.

Steve if that strong shear of 30-40 kts reaches Isabel it would stick the fork to her.

With each hour I am beginning to doubt it more and more. It looks like I may have been wrong yesterday, thankfully..

Yes Luis, lets see how strong the trough is when it nears her. It could flatten out across the mid Atlantic. But if she accelerates, she may get whacked. If the Short wave goes negative tilt, it could enhance her.
