Is this a possibility???

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is this a possibility???

Some of you might remember me talking about the second Ridge reloading last week, well this is it. Isabel has been stationary between the departing Trof and Canadian High to her North. high res visible imagery suggests this is about to change quickly. Already the upper steering over Florida is backing to the North rather than the West as has been the last few day's, this is an indication that the leading Eastern periphery of the Reloading ridge is moving in, you can also notice the outflow pattern to the West is much less disrupted now. This is going to get rather interesting soon, it would not surprise me in the least to see Watches Extended a bit further South to include other Parts of SC. Isabel is likely to begin going through another round of strengthening later this evening.

I'm not ... tropical storm watches DON'T extend into Charleston, SC at this time. If I were in Myrtle Beach, I'd be a little bit more nervous since the landfall cone is about 150 miles NE of them, but CHS is pretty much ok...

This building ridge will also cause izzy to hook left just before landfall...causing her to go pretty far in before she jets north of nc.

Yikes! Just as I read your post, Channel 14, the TWC News channel, just showed a graphic of the winds. It appears that we are now in the 39 to 73 MPH range!!

Sounds pretty close to right to me. BTW, where have you been, JQ? You haven't been around much.

Charleston has absolutely nothing to worry about....and I guarantee it.

The hurricane will cross the North Carolina coast....the eye passing inland between Kitty Hawk and Camp Lejeune...model guidance is in excellent agreement, and within 36 hours of landfall, it's a lock. A strong steering current is coming into place to accelerate hurricane Isabel northwestward across North Carolina from near Cape Lookout to Roanoke Rapids and on into Virginia....recurving between Pittsburgh and Johnstown, PA...and very close to Buffalo, NY.

Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina have nothing to worry about (other than possibly some light rain)...and about the worst Myrtle Beach will experience are gusts to 30-35 mph at most....you can take it to the bank.

I agree Perry.. There is less than a 1% chance for landfall to occur South of the NC/SC line

thursday travel

#14 Postby flashflood1998 » Wed Sep 17, 2003 12:42 am

i would love to see myrtle beach spared from izzy. my wife and i are leaving for our week long vacation in MYR on thursday morning. the first leg of the trip is from new york to charlotte at 6am. i'm thinking the jet may have to alter its flight path, but my hope is to make it to charlotte ahead of landfall on the coast and catch our flight to MYR thursday afternoon/evening as the storm travels north. am i completely insane to think that this could happen.. that we could avoid isabel???
