My observation on Marty...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

My observation on Marty...

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sat Sep 20, 2003 10:14 pm

Normally I don't comment on Pacific storms.. but I think Marty may have the capabilities of putting a hurt on the west coast..even if he's nothing more than a tropical wave when he arrives..

Here on the Atlantic side.. a lot of spots can handle 3 or even 6 inches of rain if they drain well enough.

Well, 6 inches of rain out west is almost as much as some of them get in about 2 YEARS....

This could have some big implications on the west coast.. Maybe he'll just decide to roam the Pacific and slowly die off..

Would be unusual, but not unheard of

Actually, lots of areas in the Mojave Desert receive very heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Not unheard of to get 2 inches of rain, but with that you also hear about incredible flash flooding because the desert soil is not at all porous. If 6 inches of rain fell in the metro areas of LA, San Diego, Vegas, or Pheonix, that would be really crazy. Especially here in LA, where no one knows how to drive in the rain, even a trace. I really doubt Marty would bring that type of moisture and convection with it northward though.
