News from gulf coast region

#1 Postby SunnyThoughts » Mon Jun 14, 2004 11:27 am

Hi everyone, thought you might like to see recent reports from the local agencies.

A High Surf advisory has been issued until 900 pm CDT This evening

for the following coastal counties:

In southwest Alabama...Baldwin and Mobile counties..
In northwest Florida...Okaloosa, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

At 10:44 am Nataional Weather Service indicated That large swells form a tropical disturbance over the northern gulf has produced high surf along the Alabama and Northwest Florida coastline..Lifeguards report confused Sea States along area beaches as well. These conditions will continue through the evening hours as the tropical disturbance continues northward. A high risk of Rip currents will occur in tandem with the high surf conditions and tides will remain 1 to 2 feet above normal.
Minor flooding and beach erosion can be expected from Dauphin Island eastward to Destin.

Residents living along the affected coastal areas should take precautions to protect life and property by removing personal items from the beach area and keeping family members clear of the high water and waves.

Conditions are expected to improve late tonight as the tropical disturbance either weakens or moves inland.
