Okay, this one is another one for the mets or power watchers.
I understand that the ITCZ migrates across the equator based on the seasons (with only minimal projection into the south atlantic) and that it is a worldwide occurance. What I don't understand is how the African monsoon (Derecho mentioned that monsoon troughs over africa cause these intense waves) operates or any monsoon for that matter.
Would someone point the way to information on the ITCZ and african monsoon?

Thanks for those words and the help you got is one example of why storm2k is the best board of the net when tropical weather and weather in general is concern.
