GOM tonight

#1 Postby MGC » Sat Jul 10, 2004 3:46 pm

Having just returned from Pensacola Beach watching my Blue Angels thrill me yet again, I took a good long look at the disturbance in the GOM and have concluded that no development will occur. This is nothing more than a wave interacting with an upper low. Lower Texas coast will be wet the next day or two.......MGC

To me I think the Northern Gulf Coast may get wet too. Is it just me or does that Northern Band look to be coming to Louisiana?
Any comments please because I don't know if I am just going Hurricane Crazy???? :D

That's what it appears to be now. But pressures are starting to fall in some of buoys out there and winds have increased in the last few hours. Maybe something trying to get down to the surface. Here's one... http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.p ... tion=42002

Well judging by our rain chances, the NWS doesn't think this stuff will have any impact on us. However, I noticed that storms continue to pop down there and all of it looks to be heading this way, we'll see what happens...

W GOM Disturbance

#7 Postby KatDaddy » Sat Jul 10, 2004 6:23 pm

Its interesting to see an ENE wind since 1:50PM this afternoon however I would be surprised to see any significant developement. The only thing I see thats interesting is the tight fast spinning midlevel swirl S of LA Coast moving NNW and a second large midlevel swirl moving N into the W GOM from the BOC. Both of these swirls are initiating heavy thunderstorms to the N. If the Upper Level Low was out of the picture and we had more consolidated storms in one area then may it would be something to watch more closely. With that being said someone along the TX Coast is in for some very heavy tropical downpours.

MGC you got that one right!!

As far as the bouys are concerned, the one you found Zack is the only one even showing a drop and that is a normal afternoon drop, nothing else. The bouys show no signs whatsoever of circulation.

The TX coast will get some tropical downpours from this system, but unless something changes drastically that will be the extent of it.
