It's actually diminished last night then blew up again this morning. Still seems to be a disturbance there, but nothing more, yet.

The importance of persistence as some sort of magical criteria for development is somewhat overrated.

And one thing that happens with the thousands of instances of GOM convection related to upper level conditions rather than tropical development that never develop is that it will often stay in the same place for several days, "cycling" and if the down-cycle is overnight people will be under the impression it's been more persistent than it actually is.

I see your point, Derecho. Actually, this time of year, the GOM is pretty convective most of the time. Still, the water temps are super warm (91 off Clearwater Beach), and the season is right.
