Those that live in Jupiter

#1 Postby bosag » Mon Aug 30, 2004 5:02 pm

Hi. I have a question pertaining to the local shelters. Independence Middle School is supposed to be a shelter? Yet it is on the east side of Military Trail, and technically in a flood zone? Is that safe, We would consider Dwyer.
Also My brother lives off Central Blvd in Indian Creek in those quad apts, he is technically on the border of the surge boundary line. would he be a consideration? We live off Indiantown Rd, by Big Dollar Plaza.

Im not trying to panic, just trying to get the ducks in order (I have 4 kids to worry about!). I hate waiting til the last minute, yet I feel we are "Stuck" not knowing where this girl is heading .

TIA Barb in Jupiter

Hi, I live off central as well, near Jupiter village. Unfortunately since I have only lived here a little over a year, I don't know the answers to your questions but I am anxious to see anything anyone else can tell us. Its getting pretty interesting!!

My guess is.. it's not safe if it's in a flood zone.. May wanna go to a shelter that's away from a flood prone area

That's the trouble with Jupiter...
East side of town, you could have the ocean at your front door, while on the west side of town, a little bit of rain puts the swamp at the back door!! I used to live in Hobe Sound, they're in the same boat there.

Hi Barb, I'm also in Jupiter but I'm in a evacuation zone. I'm not sure what we are going to do yet, just kind of a wait and see.
Here is a great link that tells you all of the shelters in our area if it looks like we will have to go.

I work for the Town of Jupiter and live in the Farms. Used to live in Brentwood behind the Courier. Independence is on the west side of Military Trail, next to the new skate park. As far as I know, Independence is the only shelter within Town limits. Dwyer is also a shelter but is in PBG.

Independence and Dwyer are the only two in Jupiter. Here's a list published at TCPalm.com:

Jupiter Residents

#14 Postby Moody Blues » Tue Aug 31, 2004 5:34 am

We live on the open part of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter. We will leave and go to our office complex off Central Blvd. near I-95. If you contact the Town of Jupiter or PBC they will tell you where to go. Whatever you do, do not try to leave town at the last minute, you will ride out the storm in your car.
