Ivan= Annular Hurricane??

#1 Postby JtSmarts » Wed Sep 15, 2004 11:43 am

I just read on DT's website that Ivan is an annular hurricane (huge eye) similar to Isabel, that is what has kept his intensity constant over the past few days. Another similarity of Ivan and Isabel is that they both reached Cat 5 strength 3 TIMES!!

This storm appeared to be on the verge of becoming an annular cane a few times, but, to my eye, never actually did.

"Annular" means a lot more than just a large eye.

Izzy had that HUGE, mesmerizing eye when she was a Cat 4 last year. Ivan is starting to show a similar large eye, with all the little low cloud vortices spinning around.

Another comparison is to Hugo, which had a large eye at landfall...and unfortunately we all know what he did :(

I agree with you calidoug, Ivan has come close, but I never thought it was true annular hurricane, although it is trying to become one now.
