Yep, I called it (I'm sure others did too) as it was making landfall. I knew it couldn't be just a tropical storm. That thing was potent.

PK the other thread was related to the sticky thread about the reports of the 2004 systems as what was posted was the change from tropical storm to hurricane information that is posted at the sticky thread and was moved out for that reason. This thread is different because it doesn't have any information that is at sticky thread only an opinion from this member who made this thread. :)

I went through Gaston, and for its size (at the time it was still considered as a strong tropical storm), I made continual comments that Gaston was the strongest tropical storm that never got an upgrade ... well, that's out the window, now ...

I studied it, reviewed datasets, etc ... and came to the conclusion that it could go either way in regards to strong tropical storm/min CAT 1 hurricane ...
