Are you ready..?

It's about 33 hours away..

and when it gets busy.. treat it like a carnival ride and hang on because you don't know when it's gonna stop :wink:

lol.. That is actually the analogy I use with a lot of my fellow associates at Wal Mart when we start getting slammed..

I always tell them.. "Treat the rushes like a roller coaster ride.. but hang on because you don't know when it's gonna stop".. lol

Usually about 2-3 hours later if we're still slammed.. I here a lot of my fellow associates {especially my cart pushers lol} going "Make it stop.. please" lol

Me neither DH.. especially when the storms come up.. then I can start crunching numbers and going back to my experimental forecasts..

Plus I am now "Wal Mart #2881 Storm Tracker" lol

J - I don't know what it is (probably mental illness of some sort),
but I have loved Hurricane Season since I was a young child.
I rememeber listening to NOAA Weather Radio to get coordinates
and plot them on my chart. That was a lot of fun, and I learned
a great deal about geography doing so.

The "sickness" grew and grew, and thanks to the internet and
the availability of data from countless sources, well, I just LOVE IT!

Nothing personal, and I certainly do not wish landfall for anyone.

Hurricane Season is my favorite time of year.. even though Charley scared the bajeezers out of me lol..

I have been the same way.. Plotting coordinates since I was a 3rd grader lol.. Sometimes I'll admit "wishing" for storms..

Even now.. We have 3 local news networks.. and I always listen to all 3 before I decide what exactly I need to do if a storm approaches..

I always remember as a kid when I moved to Florida how excited I would get when there was a storm close by. Now it gets me even more excited even though last season we were without power for a week and it was a living hell. I guess I forgot about the aftermath pretty quickly.

Charley took my power for 11 {almost 12 days}.. I actually began to look forward to taking cold showers and bread and cereal were becoming my favorite foods lol..

I'm kinda glad I wasn't working for Wal Mart yet.. My store suffered severe damage {which is still being repaired} and was closed for 4 days..

I hear stories all the time of people who were lined up outside our store wanting us to sell them things we knew weren't safe to sell.. It became madness lol :eek:

When I worked at K-mart, over 6 years ago, they refused to close the store for a hurricane. We went under a warning for Georges and said all employees had to report to work as usual. Luckily, Georges missed us. But, I wouldn't of went to work if he would of came here instead. My safety is more important than any job or amount of money. I am glad that I don't work for K-mart anymore. But, now work for Sears and they merged with K-mart!

Sorry, I am rambling and going off topic again. But, yeah, I can't wait until the 2005 kickoff! Even though, we will probably have to wait until mid August to get any action going! Things don't usually get really exciting until then.

Interesting - K-mart boarded up all their stores for Ivan and closed (here, anyway)

Wal Mart's around here took no chances with our big 3.. and closed up I think at least 18-24 hours before the 1st rainbands approached..

We closed when we had a threat from Ivan. But, it seems like we are always the last store to close in the mall when a storm threatnes. We will stay open for a Tropical Storm though. We did for both Bill and Allison. And for Lili, they kept the hardware store in Sears open until the usual closing time of 9. Even when we were getting winds around Tropical Storm Force. And some of the older employees that been around for a long time, told me that they only closed an hour before Andrew hit. Even though all the doors kept flying open. I was only 16 for Andrew and still in high school, glad I was not working there then.
