Theoretically...what can Southwest Florida expect?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Im thinking I might get some TS gusts and blustery conditions all the way in Jupiter, so maybe the west coast will get sustained TS winds.

They just issued a TS watch for South Florida on both coasts... south of Bonita Beach on the West and south of Golden Beach on the East. Hurricane Watch for the Keys and Florida Bay.

And so it begins. Lets just hope that is all South Florida will get. A T.S watch and nothing more.

The NHC has issued watches for South Florida and the keys. At the very least i think SW Forida and the keys should expect some heavy rainbands with likely gusts above hurricane force. If Dennis continues this NW jog then SW Florida will get the worst of it.

Theoretically speaking....

Dennis could march up the entire Florida West coast as a cat 3/4, lets say 10 miles off shore... heading NNW until it hits "landfalls" in the panhandle... The West coast would prolly be destroyed... This of course being the worst case scenerio... not likely to happen I dont think.

The FNMOC military site for wave height/swells indicates Dennis will come ashore around Homestead/So.Miami and cut across the state south of Tampa. What do they know that we don't??? They have been disturbingly accurate in the past.

There is no digging trough in the central gulf to drive Dennis inland over southern Florida.
Dennis intensified and turned northwest he may not continue to recurve more if the ridge holds.
On his present course only the keys and maybe the western panhandle would experience the kind of winds that cause power outages.
It is also possible Dennis could turn back WNW once he is north of Jamaica or after traveling over Cuba.
It is going to be a mess shopping here on the west coast of Florida if the media starts hyping a Florida landfall so lets keep our fingers crossed they get some good news about the steering ridge..

Nothing is impossible when it comes to predicting Hurricanes. I thought Dennis would pass well West of SW Florida. Wrong Again. :D

Northwest most of the morning I believe. You guys in Tampa should especially keep an eye on this storm. Tropical Storm watches now in effect for S. Florida, Hurricane Watches for The Keys.

Well Kevin, I may be coming down there to see YOU for that shirley temple. The last thing we need up here is a surge up the bay from this sucker...

After this comes up click on either of the North Atlantic maps, then on the next screen's table, the upper left "tau". This will bring up a long scrolling page of predicted wave heights. Sorry I cannot post a direct link.
