EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
TROPICAL STORM IRENE
NJN WEATHER CENTER
510 PM SAT AUG 13TH 2005

On this 1 year anniversary of Hurricane Charley, we do not have another landfalling system. Irene is expected to forecast to stay out at sea.

Irene still is a compact system, with decent thunderstorms. But the further north she goes.. she'll begin to lose her tropical characteristics.

Irene is a borderline hurricane, she may get there for a short time.. but then should start to begin to be impacted by the cooler waters of the Northern Atlantic. She is already feeling the effects of the trough that was expected to kick her out to sea. This will keep her away from the MidAtlantic or the NorthEast.

My official forecast for Irene, has her becoming a hurricane for a short time, before the cooler waters take over and gradually cause her to die off.

Here is my experimental 5 day forecast on Irene:
Tonight: Becoming a hurricane, maybe strengthening a bit. Max Winds: 75 mph
Sunday: Beginning to move northerly. Max Winds: 85 mph
Monday: Well to the East of Deleware and NJ. Max Winds: 90 mph.. starting to become extratropical
Tuesday: Shooting NE. Threat to ships but no land. Max winds: 75 mph.
Wednesday: Dying off, extra tropical. Max winds: 65 mph
