Believe it or not the WPac has been kinda slow this year. 2004 had an ACE of 464 with a total of 31/21/13 for number of storms and its the 3rd highest on record.

Likely due to La Nina and cooler Pacific Decadal Oscillation.

I agree, 2004 typhoon season is a very "hyperactive" one. As for the Philippines, it was the last season where all storm names from A-Z were used. Also, the last three storms of the season (2 TS and a STY) occurred as late as December, and that STY (Nanmadol) became the first known December TC to make landfall on PI in the past 100 years.

I also would like to note that most number of TC's usually form during the last part of the year, and most of them turned out to be strong systems that contributed to high ACE numbers. I guess we only have to wait and see if things will get more active considering that La Nina returned last month.
