I see what you are talking about... don't know for sure, but the idea of that being the center is plausible to me...

it can also be irresponsible to argue with a pro as well. it would be a lot smarter to agree to disagree RESPECTFULLY & just move on. That is what I would tell my sons.

OK, it's a little funny, I'm picturing a bunch of us staring at their CRTs, blowing on the last embers of the campfire, hoping to see some red so there's something to heat up our coffee in the morning.

umm, just becasue they have a pro banner stuck to them doesnt mean they are right all the time, if i disagree i have no problem telling them, as in the case yesterday wxman was telling me it was going wnw and it was going west and come to find out i was right, so i will not just go along with someone because they are a pro, i have and will continue to question something i dont agree with

Maybe in a perfect world, that would work. But from what I have seen, in these arguments, these pro mets try to stir up trouble, insulting us as being far inferior to their "elite knowledge", also taking personal stabs like accusations of -removed-. Trying to be all elitest and make us believe they know everything about what's going on and we don't know what they're talking about. I don't know about you, but folks got to EARN my respect, they don't just get it with a title.

For crying out loud this is a weather board. We can discuse what ever...I believe that a new LLC is starting to form at this moment. In we should have a better idea by morning.

Ivan - you are missing the point. I did not say you have to agree - I said you could RESPECTFULLY agree to disagree and then move on. To keep rehashing the same old thing and to bring up someones supposed past errors is NOT the way to get along with others. Can you understand that? When he did not agree with you then just state NICELY, " I beg to differ, but I will respect your opinion, even though it is not the same as mine." Now does that not go over alot better than to argue and get no where but angry and to make an enemy?

Irene has picked up forward speed, starts to pour it on. High strengthening, trough wanes. Now another burst of magenta near the center. Strong rotation directive. Continues heading due west under the building ridge.

True, but does arguing do any good? Does it solve anything other than making others want to avoid the thread? There is a right way and a wrong way to disagree. If you truly feel they are being disrepsectful then you must be disrespectful back? What ever happened to the golden rule? Treat others as you would LIKE to be treated. (not as you may feel you are treated) In other words - do 2 wrongs make a right?

I think the new LLC is at 23.5/56 west. The convection is blowing up fast. I expect if I'm right that this will become better oreganized over the next 12 hours.

The Pros. would also realize that the important "last step" of the scientific method is peer review, skepticism, debate, discussion, which inspires progress. Science cannot advance if an expert's word is immediately taken as gospel.

I'm a scientist turned economist (which is a "social science"). To tear a page out of economic theory, allowing pros. to rest on their credentials creates disincentive for them. They are less pressured and thus less inclined to question themselves, their methodology, and their findings. A good skeptic (meaning skepticism well placed) is a Pareto improvement, meaning it benefits all sides. If the skeptic is incorrect, he/she has learned something new. If the Pro. is incorrect, he/she has attained new knowledge. The third party (e.g. public receiving the forecast) is better off because this new knowledge translates into better understanding meaning better predictions for them in the future.

So question away! Don't question for the sake of opposing a pro, but definitely question when the issue merits it.
