Is anyone else experiencing EXTREMELY slow broadband service the past hour or so? I'm having alot of difficulty, which at first just attributed to the forums' bandwidth being stretched so thin with all the traffic tonight. But now it takes me forever to open pages on ANY web site.

Sorry for going off topic, but I don't have cable & have been getting my best info throughout this whole ordeal from here (with regular visits to the local official liks, of course). So the LAST thing I want happening right now is for my communication be cut off! Thanks guys

My service has been kinda slow too..

An update from my area..

It's eerily still outside.. Only a slight hint of a breeze, and if you look close enough.. the few clouds we currently have are actually rotating around..

Sounds like things could get interesting soon..

Also.. I just noticed the inland hurricane warning has been downgraded to a TS.. shoot  j/k..

Oh well.. Stay safe tonight all.. I'll probably attempt to go to bed shortly after 12.. and probably try to get up just as our worst winds and weather approach

That's enough to send a chill through you..

BTW.. CJ.. Hate to go off topic for a sec.. But I took a look today in broad daylight at what used to be the 99 cent super store.. and the entire place is just gone.. It looks like someone dropped a bomb on it..

Ok.. back to the hurricane..

Wow, love that cool wind. Not the warm humid wind we experienced last year with the storms. Wind here is about 20mph sustained, with significantly higher gusts, and we have heard a few transformers pop in the distance. There has been a significant amount of rainfall, and I have no doubt there are going to be some flooding issues in many areas. The worst part thus far have been the tornadic cells passing through Eastern Orange, Eastern Seminole, and all of Brevard County. I think the poor folks in Brevard have been under the gun all night.

Weather in Vero Beach at 9:00 - Occaisional wind gusts in the 40's, sporadic rain and power hasn't even flickered. If power stays on until noon I'll be one happy camper!

About the same conditions as Jeanne and Frances here near Lake Toho in Kissimmee...lots of gusts and rain, a few branches down, power flickers here and there. Nothing at ALL like Charley, thank goodness...we lost nearly every tree in our yard in that one!

Has anyone heard anything about part of hwy 60 in Lake Wales being under water? Were they hit hard again? My father lives out there in a mobile home & I can't get hold of him. :(

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I stayed awake until the other half got up, so we could keep an eye on the tornado warnings. A couple small branches have thumped our house, broken from who knows where.
Probably 20-30mph sustained right now with the occasional 40-50 gust.

What's shocking is the 60-59 degree temperatures!

Brrrrr!
Nice early morning for sleeping!
Have seen quite a few traffic reports with cars blown off the roads.
Glad I didn't open my office, don't need a car wreck.

Ya know, Sea World opened normally this AM

Any news on Mulberry? I know they got smacked really bad with feeder bands and where under a tornado warning lastnight.

I would call my bestfriends that lives over there to see how she is doing but my phone isn't working. It got surged and killed lastnight when someone in a car ran into a power pole and my lights went off, then came back on at half power. (If that makes and sense) Before finally going off when the transformer blew. :x

Here in Cocoa Beach we;ve had sustained winds around 50knots for a few hours with some hurricane force gusts. We may have had about 10 minutes with susutained winds close to hurricane strength. All in all thre is just some weak tree limbs and little if any structual damage. It is almost high tide and Im about to see what the beach looks like, I dont expect much of a water rise b/c the winds are now NNW. Also the air temp has plummeted with it being below 70* outside.

I will answer my own question! :)

CAPE CANAVERAL, 12:22 p.m. NASA fares well

NASA's multi-billion-dollar space shuttle fleet, twin launch pads and other facilities at Kennedy Space Center appear to have survived Hurricane Wilma without suffering major damage, officials said today.

Nevertheless, heavy rain and high winds swept through the space center as the hurricane moved across the southern part of Florida and toward the Atlantic Ocean.

"We're in the Mary Poppins mode," said KSC spokesman George Diller. "We've getting hit pretty hard with sideways rain."

The rain at times was so heavy NASA's 36-story shuttle launch pads could not be seen from the KSC Launch Control Center three to four miles away, Diller said.

A tornado touched down briefly near the southern entrance to the space center on North Merritt Island about 10 a.m. And a funnel cloud was spotted near Haulover Canal an hour later, but did not touch down.

Initial reports indicated sustained winds reached about 57 mph around 10:30 a.m. with gusts up to 74 mph, Diller said.

NASA emergency-management officials planned to send a team out to assess damage early this afternoon. Preliminary reports indicate no major damage was done.

"We might have lost a couple of panels on the Vehicle Assembly Building, but overall, we don't see any obvious damage," Diller said. "It's turning out to be just about what we expected."
