I hate tropical systems that make landfall at night,it can be very scary.Hope everybody in the path of Ernesto stays safe tonight, and have that flashlight ready.
Pilings. Houses on Pilings sway a little in the wind. Kind of like tall buildings. It can be very disconcerting the first time. The weather is not that bad. N Easters blow this hard sometimes.
Sorry just trying to describe how fast the wind is at my location. I need an anemometer I think. Maybe next time.
Winds about 15-18 MPH and raining steady. 5.71" of rain over the last 24 Hrs. Streets and roads have minor flooding now, but as streams swell we can expect more serious flooding......
just ran outside (and had some girl laugh at me...) and secured my anemometer...the cups were lose...so I should have good wind readings all night long, but it is fairly wooded here...sadly...but should be interesting wind readings and pressure is good!!! now if only I can get it uploaded...
Lots of flooding throghout Wilmington. Landfall community has several streets that are impassable. Gordon road neighborhoods had dozens of cars just parked in yards and side of roads where people just walked home through waist deep water in spots. Oh, my kids say the Pete Dye course has a number of new significant water holes!!!
Hang in there folks. I'm a Florida transplant from NC but that's still HOME. I grew up in High Point and Winston Salem but my summers were always spent at Ft Caswell down on Oak Island.
strongrain bands now--the conditions are getting worse--the rain is very heavy and the wind is picking up--will check the spped when i get home--had to go check on my father and stopped by the office will go home now
