Try checking the Lee EOC site. I actually fell upon this link when I was browsing through Collier's site.

What is the direct link to the "How Close Will It Get" site? I still am coming up with all zeros for some reason.

I'm going to try to get some sleep. My stomach is turning somersaults...not conducive for a good night's rest! :(

Sleep well,
Linda

Mine didn't work earlier but I am at 26.2 and 81.5 (rounded) and this one appears to be correct

And yes, I'm still up. LOL

We really should plan to get together when this is all over and Ron returns from his cruise!

Lynn,

Our locations (rounded) are pretty close according to the numbers so no need for me to run it only to get the same "lovely" news!

BTW...I'm off of Airport less than a mile south of Pine Ridge.

Not having an easy time going to bed...

we'll see... i hope so but i don't trust anything/anyone until it happens.... been through enough storms that either weren't supposed to hit or hit as something less than happened (i.e. andrew, charley, etc.)

Hmmmh! 26.3 81.5 in 60 hours sounded awfully familiar until I realized it is .1 due N of me. Yikes South Bonita Springs?
Stay safe, everyone.

Lynn

If this looks familiar, I just posted on the official thread but wanted to be sure SW FL saw this and also bump the thread. I can't believe who all is up already after being here most of the night. I may hit the bed again for an hour before I get into full gear.

I've noticed ALOT of my friends in the voluntary evacuation area leaving, and alot of my friends in The Moorings leaving as well. Is this the same for everyone else?

One big thing i'd like to say, the Collier County Models showed that about 30% of the County's buildings will be severely damaged from storm surge, and even more affected by flooding.

This is still a very serious situation for our city.

What makes me kind of sad is thinking about what our city may look like if this storm comes through as a cat 2/3. I mean, all the landscaping, all the huge 20/30 story condos on the beach, the Philharmonic Center for the Arts where I play cello for the Jr. Phil, all the great restaurants, what if all these places are destroyed? What if Naples is beyond repair? We haven't experienced a direct hit by a major hurricane in so many years, what about the schools? What will our city look like....

Kevin, Don't worry. We will rebound.

Kevin -
I think everyone is feeling the same this morning around here. Naples is just a beautiful place. And I think alot of people take it for granted that it will always be this way.
All we can do now is hope for the best, and know that this is a strong city, and no matter what Mother Nature throws our way, we will do what we have to do to contuine to be one of the greatest cities in the country.
Stay safe my friend, and tell your dad we all appriciate what he and the rest of the county officals are doing to keep us all informed, and for you Kevin, WOW you are an amazing young man, with a very bright furture in whatever you decide to do. Thank you for all your great post and updates.

Nice graphic Sir Cho :)

Ok I just got back from a morning excursion from Hickory Island to Vanderbuit beach.. It's quiet out there. Many people must have left already.. Some places have boarded up well.. many have not. Doc's Beach House.. Has piles of sand bags and plastice surrounding the place. I did notice some higher swells in Vanderbuilt beach and of course some surfers were taking advantage of it.. Really not much wave action ATM. It amazing me when I see the beach Stores with 15' foot windows and absolutely no protection.. That is irresponsible..

As a side note my wife works out at Miromar Malls for a large Builder and they had a offer to put up plywood for thier large windows for $8,000  That is a ripoff for wood..imho...I don't care if it took a crew 2 days to install.. There were many people hauling plywood around today as well so it must still be available in the area.

Kevin:

I know how level headed you are so please don't freak out on us yet. I will rereun when the next models comeout and if the site is working properly I'll update the predictions. So much can happen between now and late tomorrow/early Monday. That said, I am freaking myself trying to figure how much we can haul and if it is necessary! We're almost ready if necessary to haul A**.

Good Morning Team!

I didn't jump ship yet...LOL :D

After getting about 3 hours maybe) sleep last night I went up to my dad's to get him packed and off to Atlantic City. I am soooooooooooooooo relieved he won't have to go through the storm with us! I have to tell you, the roads were very very quiet from Pine Ridge and Airport where I live, up through Bonita where my dad is. The interstate was equally quite....so quiet it was almost eerie. I have to wonder if whoever was going to leave, left earlier to beat the traffic and perhaps the rest of us are planning to stay at home, go to shelters or leave when they see how strong Wilma is after making the curve. I dunno.

We are heading to Orlando probably in the early evening. My house is 15 years old and still has the original roof. We did board the windows and sliders...whether it will help is anyone's guess.

Kevin...you are echoing the same thoughts that I'm sure each one of us has running around inside our heads. I love Naples and my heart just breaks thinking about any devastation Wilma has in mind for us. Keep positive thoughts going...we will get through this and we will survive! What choice do we have anyway, right? Thank you again for all your kindness, dedication, and patience you have so unselfishly given to all of us...you're an amazing young man!

Will post again I'm sure before we leave. Thank goodness we'll have my husband's laptop so I can stay in touch.

Be strong and have faith everyone!

Me again,

Am I reading this statement from the NWS in Miami correctly? Have the mandatory evacuation orders been extended?

This part we all know:

...PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
IN COLLIER COUNTY...A MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER HAS ALREADY BEEN ISSUED FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS SOUTH AND WEST OF U.S. HIGHWAY 41 INCLUDING MARCO ISLAND...EVERGLADES CITY..

...AND A LARGE PART OF NAPLES.

what do they mean by "a large part???

THIS MANDATORY EVACUATION SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY 8 AM EDT SUNDAY. SHELTERS WILL OPEN AT 8 AM EDT SUNDAY.

Any info is most appreciated! There was also a crawler on the TWC a few minutes ago, but nothing on the networks.

UPDATE: I called the EOC who said they haven't announced any extensions yet. I told the woman what the NWS statement out of Miami said and she told me just to stay tuned for updates. I asked her to check into the statement as it has would certainly confuse and upset many people! There is an EOC news conference I believe at 2pm which you can watch on government channels 11 + 16 for any changes.

If anyone hears about this situation, please let us know!

Updated potential track for Wilma as of 11a.m. puts the eye 3 miles from my house in 49.8 hours. Each run gets a little closer. Hopefully, the trend will reverse.

Word of caution-don't forget to charge all of your electronics-cellphone, digital cameras, Ipods, etc. and of course your laptop, if you have it.

Stephanie Abrams is speaking from the Naples pier right now. Waves are only moderate but there are some crazy surfers.

Lynn

PS Linda-don't like that TAOS at all! WE are EXPECTING better news. YOu promised. :D
