Sooooo, maybe none? Although I really don't see why y'all are so geeked up about it. If they do, they do. If they don't, they don't. Won't really change the price of fries at BK either way will it?

Well, if no names are retired, then the general public may get the impression that nothing very important happened during the 2010 season and it wasn't a big deal.

If several names are retired, maybe there will be a perception of increased risk of major storms as part of a continuing pattern of escalating activity, so oil speculators will build that risk into their futures contracts thereby causing a rise in the price of oil and the price of transporting potatoes from Idaho to the factory, thereby increasing the price of fries at Burger King. :D

If we get no retirements, maybe some traders will get the impression that the active period is ending and there is less justification for expensive oil, and the price of french fries could decrease. Or increase anyway because they really don't care if there's a justification or not to raise the prices.

The meeting ended yesterday, so tomorrow (Monday) we might get a release as they don't usually release details on weekends.

Makes you wonder since we haven't had any hurricane landfalls since 2008, how bad any hurricanes that make landfall in the U.S. will be this year.

And no major hurricane landfalls since 2005 although Gustav and especially Ike showed us that "minor" hurricanes can be as dangerous as major ones.

Agreed Macrocane and Hurricane Jed. I have been through Allison (2001) and Ike. It was horrifying to put it at best. Ike did more damage than some major hurricanes have done on Texas.

Rains like a hammer too. Hermine moved through Central Texas and that was unbelievable and was on the coast in 1993 for Arlene. No wonder inland flooding has become the greatest killer and that more Category 1's are being retired.

The general public won't know (or care) one way or the other. Homer in Boise, Matilda in Albuquerque and Shaniqua in Philly don't pay attention to such things at all.

Ike did serious damage all the way up into Ohio which is extremely rare.

I find it odd that it is nearly midday Wednesday, at least where I'm at and still no news. Starting to wonder if no names were retired.

Per Morgan Palmer (@MorganPalmer WBBH Meteorologist) Igor and Tomas were retired.

I was surprised too but if a country doesn't ask for it, there's nothing anyone can do.

Wow. At the very least I thought Karl would be a shoe-in for retirement. Still I think they should take a vote on it regardless whether or not they make a request. Oh well though. Matthew and Agatha not being a retired were a bit of surprise considering how deadly and destructive they were in countries other than Mexico. I do like the replacement names though. And Tomas is the first T named storm retired too.

 Oh Mexico.

At least they finally used Ian... that means there are officially no I names left!

Wow, I'm not sure what I'm more shocked about - Karl or Agatha. And I really thought Alex was a shoe-in too.
