Looks to be about mid to high end EF1 damage there.

That seems pretty low, you must have been in a sheltered area. On the lake I know at least gusts were tropical storm force (Kingston, on the opposite shore, had gusts near 45 mph).

And my thinking exactly too! The triple C has similar thought patterns.

Re: Irene - Northeast US Prep and Impact
Today was the windiest August day in Montreal's history (excluding higher gusts during thunderstorms which only last a few minutes.)
With today's rain, we also set a record for wettest August ever.
So far, 27 people have died because of Irene and the storm have caused more than $10 billion in damage which would put it as the 12th costliest Atlantic hurricane.

Yep, the winds out on the lake were stronger, I'm sure...there was one area we had sustained (on my Kestral) at 23 mph, with gusts in the upper 20s...but looking at the trees and flags, the wind was probably gusting to 40 mph just another 10 or 20 feet above us. Plenty of leaves and limbs down, too. Saw one limb about an inch to 1.5 inches thick at the point it broke off.

I noticed yesterday as well a big difference between 10th floor and surface. At the 10th, it was likely sustained tropical storm force for a while around 2 pm and around 8 pm and gusting frequently to 45-50 mph (with one gust to 55 appearing to make it to the surface), while only a few big gusts got to the surface and sustained there was likely only about 30 mph for the most part. A few trees are down here but tons of limbs about that thick. Topography enhances winds, so places along major rivers in funnel zones would have experienced significantly higher wind gusts (like the St. Lawrence, Hudson, Mohawk and Ottawa Rivers and perhaps Oneida Lake, for instance). It seems I was just in the right place to catch the highest gusts.

35 at last check with 11 missing.
Seriously, the 36th fatality could have easily happened this afternoon here. A large tree limb (branches about 2 inches thick at its thickest) was thrown onto a major road (not sure if someone moved it there, it rolled there or landed there all night) and cars kept driving right over it, moving it around. I had to hold up traffic to pick it up only after giving signals. That could have easily landed on some pedestrian and that debris thrown by a car at 40 mph could be deadly!

Just wanted to let everyone know that you aren't forgotten just because the storm is over. Many of us know exactly what you're going through and you are still in our thoughts and prayers. The aftermath of a hurricane lasts a while but you get through one day at a time. I hope your lives get back to normal (or as normal as it can be) soon.
