The NHC has a very, very clear job. They record and publish information on Atlantic and East Pacific hurricanes. They also print public advisories, and it would be very, very bad for the NHC if they intentionally deceived the public in those advisories. They're required to be as accurate as possible, and not to give out false information.

I have looked into getting a weather station because of this. People I work with tend to over exagerate the wind speed they are looking at. I just want to get a handle on the wind speed so I knwo what to expect in the future. But, I was never able to find an inexpensive anemometer that was good for hurrican force winds. I am just looke for something ot survive to 130 mph. After that, winde speed, I am not optimistic.

The strongest winds would've been in a very rural area of SPI, I found pretty much nothing there of any sort on google earth.

Recon was in this right up until landfall, I believe it's intensity will either be held or knocked down 5kts.
