cyc, we can see it's one day closer from your last post. Since it's still so far away, why not just post those every few weeks or so? Then maybe more often the last month or last few weeks. Maybe we can generate some more conversations in other threads to keep the forum active until then.

That meeting should be the most interesting in many years. There are only 2 sure-fire retirements (Gustav and Ike) but as many as 7 names have at least an outside chance.

Those two and I add Fay as it caused numerous deaths in Hispanola and Florida.We will see a final countdown of the number of deaths in the Fay Tropical Cyclone Report due out soon.

We are getting there folks in a blink of an eye!.Less than a month away from the start of the Storm2k poll and less than 4 months away from the official start of the season.The wildcard is will something form before June 1?

Well that's always the interesting question to ask each year as we prep for the regular season start. Certainly we have had some "tropical" systems develop before June 1st over recent years. The place to look is the Western/SW Caribbean in particular as the rest of the Atlantic is usually very hostile for development.

Least year we had Arthur (?) that actually starting organizing from a tropical wave a few days before June 1st and was named a depression (or storm?) May 31st I believe. Strong mid-level ridging to the north over the GOM and SE US kept Arthur on a general West track from the Western Carib into the Bay of Campeche with landfall in Mexico.

I remember that last years tour was in mid March when the plane came to Ponce,Puerto Rico.But anyone who knows the dates when the Hurricane Hunters annual tour will be this year can post them and I will add it to the list of events prior to June 1 that is in the first post of thread.

It was in Mid January,when I started the countdown,but here we are almost a month ahead already.Time flys like a rocket that the start of the season will arrive soon enough.In case someone asks,why the countdown changes at 7 PM EST,its because the change of dates every day occurs at 00:00 UTC time or 7:00 PM EST and 8 PM EDT from March 8 when Daylight Saving Time starts.
